Knicks Trade Balkman to Dump His Not-So-High Salary

Renaldo Balkman, a much-ridiculed Isiah Thomas 2006 draft pick who turned into something of a fan favorite, won't be wearing the blue and orange of the Knicks next season. He got sent to Denver for Taurean Green, Bobby Jones (who?) and a 2010 second-round draft pick. This move is purely a salary dump for the Knicks, who stand to gain $2 million if the luxury tax is included. The team may not even include Green and Jones on its roster, which is currently bloated. The best part of this deal: Thomas apologists defended the pick of Balkman in the first round by saying Phoenix, then coached by current Knicks head man Mike D'Antoni, would have nabbed the South Carolina product with its pick if New York had tried to wait until the second round. Guess not. more ›

Last Night's Action: Woeful, Woeful West

This was a shorthanded and tired team. Renaldo Balkman missed the game for his elbow in Tuesday's game against L.A. Eddy Curry and Quentin Richardson have the flu. The rest of the team is just sick of losing. more ›

Last Night's Action: Guess Who Lost?

Last Night's Action: Guess Who Lost?

The Mardy Collins era lasted approximately six minutes. Pushed into the starting lineup in place of Stephon Marbury, Collins sprained his foot halfway through the first quarter. And, Collins’ injury was just the beginning as Phoenix trounced the Knicks 113-102 while shooting 56% from the field. To make matters worse, Renaldo Balkman went down with an injury later in the game and had to be helped off the court. With Quentin Richardson out with an... more ›

Last Night's Action: Settling It on the Court

Last Night's Action: Settling It on the Court

Knicks 119, Nuggets 112: Isiah Thomas had his Knicks go toe-to-toe with the high-flying Nuggets, and they came out on top despite trailing by 15. Don't look now, but Thomas may have made a smart move in acquiring Zach Randolph. Eddy Curry is still overweight and Renaldo Balkman was still taken too early, but the Knicks put on quite a show for the Garden fans. And it didn't involve the fisticuffs of last season's... more ›

Last Night's Action: The Locals Win!

So, do you rejoice in the win, or do you worry about the fact that Eddy Curry pulled another disappearing act? Curry has become the on-court leader and for the Knicks to get to the playoffs, they will need him to step up. more ›

Last Night's Action: The Knicks Play Defense!

Last Night's Action: The Knicks Play Defense!

-Knicks 102 Washington 82: After nine games this much is clear, you don’t want to play the Knicks on Wednesday. New York recorded their third win of the season, all on Wednesday with a fairly easy victory. Surprisingly, the win was keyed by a great defensive effort as the Knicks held Washington to 31.5% from the field. Renaldo Balkman had a fantastic game, hustling all over the floor while scoring 18 points. more ›

Let The Fun Begin!

Let The Fun Begin!

In his infinite wisdom, James Dolan has declared that Isiah Thomas must show “measurable” progress to keep his job after this season. What exactly that means hasn’t been defined, but the question is; how can this team not improve on last season? The Knicks managed only 23 wins last year and seemed to use a different lineup every night. Larry Brown ruined his reputation as a great coach by sniping at his players in the media and failing to set a rotation. In short, there is no possible scenario where this team plays worse than it did last year. more ›

Maybe They Meant To Pick Rolando Blackman?

Maybe They Meant To Pick Rolando Blackman?

The one positive you could say about Isiah was that he was always pretty good in the draft. Whether it was Channing Frye, Marcus Camby or Tracy McGrady, Isiah seemed to do pretty well in the draft. Apparently he now wants to ruin the last positive part of his reputation because how else can you explain drafting Renaldo Balkman with the 20th pick? more ›
