Remember that junior high science about nature abhorring a vacuum? Well, that abhorrence is giving us a windy day today. A fairly strong low pressure system is hanging out over northern Maine at the same time a high pressure system is moving toward New York. As the high and low get closer the the wind will blow faster to even out the pressure differences between the two. This afternoon will see the wind blowing at a good 20-25 mph with the occasional gust to 40 mph. High winds, low humidity and plenty of dry underbrush will again make conditions favorable for the rapid spread of brush fires like this one in New Jersey.

Windy Weather To Start The Work Week
A Beautiful Day
The sign says it all. The weather doesn't get much better than a sunny and 70 degree April day. Or does it? The air is bone dry and the wind is going to pick up later, leading the weather service to issue a Red Flag Warning, which means "critical fire weather conditions are occurring or imminent". Look out for brush fires, Staten Island!
