The only question after the win is what is going on with Eddy Curry? Curry played the first 9:29 of the game and then sat on the bench for the remainder of the game. Isiah gave up a ton to get the guy and now he won’t play him?

Rangers 2, Devils 1 (SO): Petr Prucha did enough to finally earn a second "E" for his name. He set up the only goal in regulation and scored the only goal in the shootout. Scott Gomez struck against his former club. The Rangers had other chances, including Chris Drury's breakaway in overtime, so this win helped them sleep better at night. Islands 3, Penguins 2: This could have been a Pyhrric victory. Rick DiPietro got...
Cavaliers 110, Knicks 106: Throughout his tumultuous summer, Isiah Thomas seemed to want to use basketball to shield himself from sexual harassment lawsuit he eventually lost. If he was devoting any amount of energy to preparing his team for its first game against Cleveland, he failed miserably. His team looked out of sorts as it got the season off on the wrong foot. Letting LeBron James score 45 points is understandable. Choosing not to guard...
After taking a 1-0 lead with just over three minutes left, the Rangers needed to play defensive hockey, so why did Jagr even hit the ice? Blair Betts and the fourth line had shutdown the Sabres all night, so why weren’t they used more at the end of the game?
Their starting pitching is completely broken and Mariano Rivera can’t get an out. The offense is now slumping and the bullpen imploding from overuse. Steinbrenner is reportedly ready to fire Joe if they are swept by Boston. Jeff Karstens takes the hill today, gulp.
- A's 5, Yankees 4: After all the work the Yankees did to outlast A's starter Rich Harden and hold the not-so-potent Oakland offense in check, Mariano Rivera gave up a three-run walk-off homer to Marco Scutaro (he's a former Met) and the Yankees lost a series in the Bay Area. They could have easily swept the three games, but a tough extra-inning loss Friday night and an even tougher loss Sunday made them settle for a 3-3 road trip. To make matters worse, they had to place Mike Mussina and Carl Pavano -- well maybe his loss isn't making matters worse -- on the disabled list before the game. They have somehow managed to tread water with their starting rotation -- Andy Pettitte aside -- in shambles. So long as they hold their own a little longer until they get healthy, they should be fine.
- Nets 111, Pacers 107: They've made the playoffs, but the Nets can still improve their position. They took a step towards doing that with this win. Since they're chasing the Gilbert Arenas-less Wizards -- who they're probably better than anyway -- the Nets have a good shot of bettering their seeding.
- Raptors 107, Knicks 105: If it's mid-April, the Knicks must be irrelevant. They lost a close one to the Raptors, who have quietly become a miniforce in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have not-so-quietly done the opposite.
- Red Bulls 3, Dallas 0: In case you weren't among the 15 people at this game played in a torrential downpour, here's how it went down. Clint Mathis scored a goal and added an assist, and the Giants Stadium field was probably ruined for weeks. At least they won. No one wants to play in a lake and lose.
So, do you rejoice in the win, or do you worry about the fact that Eddy Curry pulled another disappearing act? Curry has become the on-court leader and for the Knicks to get to the playoffs, they will need him to step up.
If you're a Nets fan, you probably keep the Tums close at hand. Last night, the Nets managed to lose in the final moments of the game again. This time to the Philadelphia 76ers, 100-98. It was the 2nd night in a row that the Nets lost in overtime (they lost to the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday) . The only other time the franchise has consecutive overtime losses is in 1977. The loss was the 4th in a row for the Nets. While Vince Carter had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Nets, he missed a game-winning shot in overtime and missed two key shots from the charity stripe.
-Islanders 5, Penguins 3: It seems like everyone's beating the Penguins these days, but the Islanders will take the five-goal outburst, including two each from Viktor Kozlov and Mike Sillinger.
-Knicks 118 Memphis 117 (Triple OT): New York almost wrecked their season in the first game. After building an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Knicks let it slip away and found themselves in a contest of endurance.
It’s Bruce Ratner!!Will Develop Don't Destory Brooklyn write a song to counter this? There are also mentions of Richard Jefferson and Nenad Kristec - listen to an MP3 here. M Bars will perform the song at the April 19 season ender at the Continental Airlines Arena; the game is against the Knicks and will be broadcast on YES. Gothamist desperately hopes that the theme song performance will be aired.
Break open the champagne the Knicks are back in the win column! Ok, so beating the Raptors at home is hardly something to be excited about, but that is a good indication of the depths to which this team has sunk. Wednesday’s 98-96 victory wasn’t pretty and wouldn’t have happened without a jumper by Jamal Crawford with three seconds left in the game, but it’s still a win.
It has come to this, Larry Brown comparing himself to Roy Rubin, a coach of the 1972-73 Sixers- the worst team in NBA history. While the Knicks will not break that record for futility, they are quickly approaching some of their own. Monday they lost 100-72 in Dallas, their tenth consecutive loss.
Kobe Bryant dropped 81 on the Raptors less than a week ago and 40 on the Knicks on Tuesday, but last night Epiphanny Prince almost topped his total for the two games combined. The senior at Murray Bergtraum scored 113 points in a 137-32 win over Brandeis yesterday. The point total is a record for a girls high school game, besting Cheryl Miller's (that's Reggie's sister) of 105 from 1982. Prince, who will be attending Rutgers next year, had a previous best of 55 points in the 8th grade.
It is hard to imagine how things can get worse than this. Off the court, the Knicks have a sex scandal and revelations of their GM’s love child. On the court, they have completely given up. Facing a terrible Atlanta team, New York turned the ball over 23 times and lost 120-101.
Antonio Davis is at home in Illinois serving his suspension for entering the stands Wednesday night. Yesterday he angrily refused calls to apologize and appealed his suspension while reasserting his original story that an intoxicated fan attacked his wife, Kendra.
And just like that the winning streak is over. The Knicks didn’t just lose on Sunday they were humiliated. Atrocious defense, poor rebounding and lousy free throw shooting all played a part in Toronto’s 129-103 victory.
Tonight marks the end of the NBA regular season. Depending on the results of tonight's Nets/Celtics and Cavs/Raptors games, Jason Kidd will either head off to the playoffs or...to the golf course. The Nets are tied with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavs for the final playoff spot. The Nets own the tiebreaker, so the odds are good that the Nets will live to see another year in the postseason.
The Knicks may have even topped their two narrow losses to Chicago by allowing seven 3-pointers and 38 points during the final quarter in Toronto. Jalen Rose (who is Isiah Thomas' latest object of desire) led the charge with 24 for the Raps, who are essentially a starless team since trading Vince Carter to the Nets for a collection of role players. Jamal Crawford looked rusty in his second game back from a turf toe (!!) injury, and nobody else seemed able to pick up the slack on offense.
In a question that Gothamist seems to be asking too often these days, did the Nets (in this case) give up too much to get Carter or is it just what they need to become competitive. A lineup with Carter, Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson sounds very nice, but big names don't necessarily deliver championships (we're looking at you Lakers).
