Last week, Brett Favre was on the cover of Sports Illustrated. This week, Eli Manning graces the cover of the magazine. If you believe the S.I. cover curse/jinx, then the Giants may be in trouble. In the magazine, Peter King gives the Giants-Packers game the cover story treatment, while Dr. Z decides to pick the Giants to make up for picking against the Jets in Super Bowl III.

If there is such a thing as a good loss the Giants earned it when they lost 38-35 to the Patriots last night. History will remember the Patriots 16-0 mark, but unfortunately it will forget that in a meaningless game on a Saturday night they faced their toughest challenge.
Oliver Perez improved to 4-1 against Atlanta this season, throwing seven strong innings allowing only two runs and striking out seven. David Wright continued his quest to become a 30-30 player with his 28th home run in the sixth, a two-run shot that scored Jose Reyes. Reyes also scored the first Mets run and stole his 75th base of the year.
For much of the first half, things didn't look so bad. The Jets contained the Patriots offense, had scored a touchdown of their own and looked like they would be in position to scare and maybe upset New England. But seconds into the second half, the team trailed by two touchdowns en route to a 38-14 loss at home. Adding injury to insult, the Jets lost Chad Pennington to an ankle injury. He returned but then yielded to Kellen Clemens during garbage time. The injury was especially ugly. Not only did Pennington have to endure landing awkwardly on his own foot, but he had to hear -- as he hustled hobbled off the field to save a time out -- fans cheer Clemens' entrance into the game. Not the classiest move by Jets fans.
They are battered and bruised and will be without their starting tight end, but they should still find a way to beat the Raiders. After all, this game means everything to the Giants and very little to Oakland. If they win they clinch the NFC East and a home playoff game. If they lose, they are probably the sixth seed and head out on the road for what should be a quick exit from the playoffs.
The Minnesota Vikings haven’t gotten any duller despite trading Randy Moss in the offseason. Their coach has been reprimanded by the league for scalping Super Bowl tickets, the players are under investigation for a boat cruise that turned into a pornographic romp and their star quarterback is out for the year. Not surprisingly, they have only won three games on the field this year and are 0-4 away from the Metrodome.
