It's Do or Die for Jets, Again

It's Do or Die for Jets, Again

The Jets (11-6) visit top-seeded Pittsburgh (15-1) (Saturday, 4:30 p.m., TV: CBS, Radio: 1050 ESPN) in an AFC Divisional Playoff game. For those who haven't been paying attention, Pittsburgh has a rookie quarterback named Ben Roethlisberger (pictured impersonating Stevie Wonder - OK, a joke) who has yet to lose in his first 13 starts,an NFL record. Yes, last year the Giants could have easily drafted him rather than giving up an arm and a leg to trade for the top pic, but hindsight is 20/20 and the jury is still out on Eli. But curmudgeony critics point out he hasn't had any truly "big games" and "is due to lose". more ›

Another Feelgood Sunday For Jets

Another Feelgood Sunday For Jets

After being knocked silly immediately at the start of the game, quarterback Quincy Carter came through in the end (particularly on a 69-yard strike to Santana Moss) and even found redemption of sorts, writes the Times' William C. Rhoden. Then again, his team got ample help from the Cards, who seemed to be in a giving mood, with four turnovers in the fourth quarter. more ›

Things Are Still Interesting For Jets

Things Are Still Interesting For Jets

Just when you thought there can't possibly be any animosity between two teams in different conferences on different sides of the country, there is the interesting angle of how Jets center Pete Kendall was suddenly dumped by new Cards coach Dennis Green earlier this summer, despite being considered the MVP of that team's offensive line. The story has everything you'd expect in this cuthroat city, betrayal, vindictiveness and labor complaints. Gothamist predicts a 35-28 Jets win. more ›

What can Jets do to beat Brown?

What can Jets do to beat Brown?

Even on the road the Jets should win this one, but it's actually somewhat intriguing, given the fact that no one will ever let the clock management issue die. NFL Films provided the perfect memento for those who felt schadenfreunde at the Jets' collapse last weekend. more ›

Life Without Chad

Life Without Chad

Even with Pennington scheduled for a return within the next three weeks, Jets fans fell aghast at the team's second loss in a row, a 20-17 overtime loss at the hands of the visiting Baltimore Ravens and Matt Stover's foot. more ›

Jets Beat Selves (or Just Plain Get Beat)

Jets Beat Selves (or Just Plain Get Beat)

Starting QB Chad Pennington did not return to action after the midway point of the fourth quarter, when he aggravated the right shoulder he had had bruised on a first quarter scramble that resulted in a fumble. Even though the game's outcome had not been completely decided at that point, coach Herm Edwards should be commended for his decision to not risk Pennington's shoulder (and likely the Jets' entire season) when the team has an experienced backup like Quincy Carter ready in the wing. That said, it was a sloppy handoff from Carter to Curtis Martin that resulted in a Buffalo safety late in the game. more ›

Jets Pass Final Preseason Exam

Jets Pass Final Preseason Exam

Although it was really just a battle of third-stringers, Bollinger, who suffered a minor knee injury in the team’s first preseason game looked like Joe Montana in leading the team to three touchdowns in the final 5:17 of play. more ›

One Man's Garbage is Another Man's Backup

One Man's Garbage is Another Man's Backup

It was only three weeks ago that Carter was given his walking papers by Bill Parcells at Valley Ranch, in somewhat mysterious circumstances that are still causing a mess. Carter is said to have had a history of substance abuse, but the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement states that a player cannot be cut for that reason alone (what other occupations allow for that?). more ›
