Libyan War Refugee Stabs Queens Man Over Alleged Plot To Kill Boss

A Libyan war refugee has been arrested and charged with fatally stabbing an acquaintance inside his Astoria apartment. Police say that 35-year-old Wahid Elawame stabbed 28-year-old Mrwan Said (also of Queens) inside Elawame’s four-bedroom home on Steinway Street, near 28th Avenue, around 11:30 p.m. Friday. Two of Elawame's roommates jumped out of the window of the second floor apartment when the stabbing started; and according to the Post, the stabbing happened because Said didn't want to take part in an alleged plot to kill Elawame’s boss, Sammy Zebib, the Layali Beirut Cafe and Restaurant owner who had refused to give Elawame more work. more ›

A 77-year-old Holocaust survivor is claiming in a federal lawsuit that an NYPD officer punched him in the face during a traffic stop on the Long Island Expressway. In the court documents obtained by the Post, Miklos Muller admits that in November he ran a red light on Woodhaven Boulevard and was pulled over moments later on the LIE. “They flashed their lights and I pulled over to the side . . . According to the police, "The vehicle fled northbound on 149 Street and collided into a parked and unoccupied minivan in front of 116-41 149 Street. The suspects exited the vehicle and fled the location. One of the suspects was apprehended in the rear of 1334 Sutphin Boulevard by responding officers and taken to Jamaica Hospital for minor injuries."
