Luxury cruise line Cunard has many ships, but last night was the first time that its Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth 2, and new Queen Victoria ships were in the "same port at the same time." And the port was the NewYork Harbor, under fireworks and gaze of the Statue of Liberty.

Yesterday, the odd news about the NYPD's arrest of three men involved with an egg-shaped submarine near the Queen Mary 2, off the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, revealed that a Brooklyn artist was behind the whole benign operation. Police Commissioner called artist Duke Riley's stunt "marine mischief," adding that the "creative craft of three adventuresome individuals" did "not pose any terrorist threat."
Totally weird: Authorities have found a "make-shift" submarine with three men in it near the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. WABC 7 reports that the men may have been trying to "set sail off Brooklyn."

Pioneer not only offers a backyard garden sporting long picnic style tables, graffiti-ed walls, and friendly table-service, but also a pool table, local brews, and some damn good brisket. For locals, or those really fond of the B61 bus, Tuesday nights are Scrabble nights where for every 7-letter word you earn a free shot of booze. The menu is broken down into small plates, medium plates, or large plates, which translates into meat, more meat, or even more meat, though the veggie burger, which comes with slabs of avocado and tomato is also a sure bet.
We went down to Red Hook to take a look at the Queen Mary 2 docking at the new Brooklyn Cruise Ship terminal. Long story short: it is one giganormous ship! People were mobbing the streets leading up to the terminal, and cops were stationed at most of the corners. Still, it was possible to get a pretty good look at the ship towering over the neighborhood, and watch as all the passengers drove up to the ship. Apparently there was a lot of confusion over where people were supposed to go, and some passengers got fairly pissed off, but all in all things went fairly smoothly. [Related: The Daily News has a lyrical description of the ship arriving, and reports on the opening ceremony. Amy from Newyorkology continues her saturation coverage, with pix from midday and late-afternoon.]
Amy from Newyorkology woke up at 5am to get the money-shot of the Queen Mary 2 arriving at the Brooklyn Cruise Ship Terminal. She reports:
- And the weekly wrap-up in advice from Ask Gothamist.
There's a nice multimedia slideshow from the Times about the QM 2. NYC.gov has information on Queen Mary 2 festivities and viewing areas; they emphasize not to go near QM2 while it's in dock at Pier 92 due to security reasons. The big event will be on Sunday, when "both QM2 and QE2 will depart from the cruise terminal, at 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. respectively, sail down the Hudson River and slowly pass the Statue of Liberty at 8:30 p.m. with a fireworks display by Grucci."
The city will be upgrading the NY Passenger Ship Terminal on the Hudson River to a new $150 million facility. In fact, the QM2 will be at Pier 92, which can barely fit the ship. A smaller $20 million facility will be built in Brooklyn during construction; Gothamist wonders if it will turn into a high end residential area after the project.
