THEATER: Teflon war criminal and Nobel laureate Henry Kissinger made news again this week with the revelation that Dr. Strangelove has secretly cautioned against any troop withdrawal from Iraq because, just like ‘Nam, such action would “become like salted peanuts to the American public; the more troops come home, the more will be demanded.” Kissinger’s breathtaking contempt for democracy is matched only by his Machiavellian genius; both attributes are skewered to great effect in this terrific revival of Nixon’s Nixon, which imagines what went down during Nixon’s historic meeting with Kissinger on the eve of his resignation. The play is getting great reviews, which further disproves Tom Lehrer’s quip that political satire became obsolete when Kissinger won the Nobel Peace Prize. - John Del Signore

Do you like show tunes? Do you like American Idol? Do you like watching the desperate hand of hope brush ever so close to success - only to be publicly smacked away? Then set “Celebrity Duets” to Tivo and come join the fun at “Broadway Idol”, the main event of the New York Musical Theatre Festival party series.

Is this a new era in Chinatown buses? The Fung Wah Bus Company has agreed to 30 day of unannounced inspections and driver checks. Last week, a speeding Fung Wah bus overturned on a Massachusetts highway and 33 passengers were injured, raising more concerns about safety on cheap and unregulated bus lines. What's more, Fung Wah will also make sure only "properly trained" drivers who "speak the English language and to converse with the general public" will be manning the buses. Well, that's all well and good, but what about after the 30 days? Will Fung Wah go back to its old ways? Or will they raise prices in order to keep "up-to-inspection" standards buses and drivesr?

Movable Hype 8.0 is coming up tonight! We want you there. The first person to email us (at GothamistContest (at) gmail dot com) wins two list spots to tonight's show. Contest closed!

Project Jenny/Project Jan first caught our attention with the Chinatown Bus song, of course. Their experimental take on pretty much every genre of music will make even the most reserved person in the crowd dance. Rock and hip hop blend with projections in their mixed media dance party.

Movable Hype 8.0 is coming up next Tuesday July 11th! We're starting to book this as more of a New York bands showcase. We've brought down a Canadian band we love for this one though (if Philly is the 6th, can we make Canada the 7th borough?) Here are the details for next week:

Tonight San Francisco rockers with the middle class rasp, Two Gallants, come to Bowery Ballroom. We interviewed them last week, and you should really check them out while they're in town. For serious. Opening up for them are Sam Champion (the actual NY weatherman still comes up first in a Google search) and Cold War Kids. Elsewhere in the city, Pela is playing with Project Jenny/Project Jan (at the Delancey).
