Today: President Obama, First Lady Visit NYC

First Lady Michelle Obama has made two visits to NYC since the inauguration, but the Big Apple will finally get to welcome President Barack Obama today. The First Couple will be making a "personal visit" to the city; the Caucus reports they will go to the 8 p.m. performance of the critically acclaimed and Tony-nominated play Joe Turner's Come and Gone, written by August Wilson. It's unclear whether there will be street closures in Midtown (expect at least some flashing lights and a motorcade). No other details of their plans have been leaked. The Daily News adds, "The First Couple will be traveling on one of the smaller planes in the Air Force VIP fleet instead of the Boeing 747 jumbo jet," which might be because it's a "personal visit" or maybe because the last time the Boeing 747 was here...well, you know.

Cuomo Wants AIG Bonus Names, Obama Wants Bonuses Rescinded

AIG's insistence that it must pay out over $165 million in bonuses to, as the NY Times put it, "executives in the same business unit that brought the company to the brink of collapse last year," has now drawn the ire of President Barack Obama and NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

The 44th President's Inauguration is, naturally, front and center for newspapers. Many opted for shots of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama walking during the parade, with their enthusiasm palpable, while the images of Obama taking the oath of office were also options for the historic day. Yesterday was exciting but official, lacking the spontaneous amazement that November 4 brought (see November 5's newspaper front pages).

Your 44th President, Barack Obama

Barack Obama was just sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. DCist has been liveblogging the swearing-in; the full text of his speech is after the jump.

On this historic night where Barack Obama was elected the next president of the United States, New Yorkers celebrated in some organized and some spontaneous gatherings. There was a planned gathering at Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard and 125th in Harlem--and thousands were there, cheering and celebrating (one reporter said sanitation workers were joining in the revelry). We're hearing about large crowds up by Columbia University (Broadway & 115th), Times Square (47th & Broadway), and the East Village (Avenue A & St. Mark's) and some bottle throwing major revelry (see below) in Williamsburg (N 7th & Bedford).
