Last month Remy Ma, after a night out at Pizza Bar in the Meatpacking District, shot her friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph. Oops. The 23-year old survived the rapper's wrath, and Remy Ma went to Riker's. The altercation began after Barnes-Joseph was believed to have stolen $3,000 from Remy Ma, something that is still unconfirmed. According to the victim, instead of calling 911 after the shooting, Remy went through her purse while she bled from two shots to the stomach.
To recap: in the early morning hours this past Saturday, a 23-year-old woman was shot in the Meatpacking District. Remy Ma, the female rapper who was suspected in a shooting early Saturday morning shortly after leaving Pizza Bar in the Meatpacking District, turned herself in and was questioned by police. According to The New York Times, Ma and the victim were arguing inside Pizza Bar, where they were attending a birthday party, about $3,000 that was missing from the rapper's purse. Makeda Barnes-Joseph––the woman who would eventually get shot––left the party with the rest of the group and got into her Nissan Maxima while Ma got into her Cadillac Escalade. Police believe the shooter got into Barnes-Joseph's car, shot her twice in the abdomen, and retreated to the Escalade, which sped off and crashed two blocks from the scene of the shooting.

The victim is in stable condition at St. Vincent's hospital and police are still searching for the so-called friend who shot her.

THEATER: The River to River Festival isn't just about outdoor concerts, and Canadians not only have great indie bands, they also have theatre troupes breaking into the experimental downtown scene. Bluemouth Inc.'s What the River Said, which is in both R2R and the Sitelines series, is a case in point; the play, which evokes "the struggle for acceptance in the calm before the family storm" is the third part of a trilogy originally performed along a creek near Toronto; you aren't likely to feel lost if you haven't seen the other parts, but you almost certainly will be eager for the full production to make it here. - Mallory Jensen

What Pop Burger did for burgers, the new Pizza Bar wants to do for pizza--provide a lounge-y, highly stylized environment in which late night dining and (more importantly?) drinking can occur. By choosing the terrifyingly trendy meatpacking district, the owners (one of whom also owns Pop Burger) have made their mission clear: prey on the young, hungry, and drunken masses. With a full liquor license and operating hours that extend until 4am, Pizza Bar's definitely not your typical by-the-slice pizzeria.
