The Mets released pitcher Oliver Perez earlier today, and the Daily News rejoices by saying the "Ollies Follies are over." Mets GM Sandy Alderson that Perez's last outing on Saturday (where he gave up two home runs in relief) showed "additional evidence that the velocity was not there, the command was not there. Cliff Lee Snubs Yankees, Heads Back To Philly

Turning down various rich offers, including one from the Yankees, pitcher Cliff Lee has decided to return to Philadelphia. The Daily News reports, "The Yankees received a call shortly before midnight from [Lee's agent Darek] Braunecker, who informed them that the 32-year-old Lee had decided to leave their seven-year offer for about $148 million on the table. The Mets introduced Johan Santana, their newest player and best attempt at getting back to the World Series, in Flushing yesterday. Just last week, the Mets and Santana agreed to a six-year $137.5 million contract that makes the Mets a favorite in the National League. Scores of press were on hand for the introduction, as well as David Wright, Omar Minaya, owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon, and Willie Randolph. Before his official introduction, the Mets played a video montage to showcase their new arm.
