Queens Pimp Slapped By Firmer Hand of Law

Earlier this week, Queens resident David Brown was found guilty of sex trafficking, kidnapping and other charges in Queens Supreme Court. Apparently, Brown paid his ex-girlfriend $2,000 to "purchase" a woman and posted nude photographs of the victimized 19-year-old on Craigslist—and he's the first convicted under former Gov. Eliot Spitzer's strict sex-trafficking law. Instead of facing a maximum of seven years, Brown will face 25 years in prison when sentenced in January. Queens District Attorney Richard Brown (no relation!) tells the Daily News that his "office continues to use every tool allowed under the law to prosecute dangerous individuals like this defendant and to seek justice for victims."

More Details About Assault Suspect's Getaway Death

Yesterday, a man—who fled after being seen beating a woman—was killed when his apparent getaway car crashed into a private garbage truck. Now it turns out the man, Mustafa Abdul-Qawiyy, was a pimp, at least according to the Daily News. Abdul-Qawiyy and Fabienne Francois-Couch, previously charged with prostitution, were "attacking the woman with a bat" (a witness said the victim was bleeding and screaming "stop, stop") before the police spotted them at Broadway and West 52nd Street in Midtown. The pair fled, with Francois-Couch driving and reportedly speeding through a red light into the garbage truck. Abdul-Qawiyy died and Francois-Couch suffered critical injuries; the beating victim had a broken arm. The NY Times adds, "The roof of the car had been sheared off by emergency workers. In the back seat was a fur coat, and in the street was blood mixed with car fluid, nail polish, lip gloss, baby booties, a toy piano, condoms and a collection of music on compact disc by Andrew Lloyd Webber."

Queens DA Richard Brown announced an off-duty NYPD detective and his girlfriend were charged with promoting the prostitution of a 13-year-old Brooklyn runaway. Brown said, “This case is every parent and every child’s worst nightmare – made even more frightening by the fact that one of the defendants is a police officer who swore to uphold the law and protect the community he serves.”
