Normally, seventh-place teams don’t make trades like this, but the Rangers are not a normal team. Constricted by the salary cap and in many ways built to win now, New York sent Petr Prucha, Nigel Dawes and Dmitri Kalinin to Phoenix in exchange for Derek Morris and draft picks to Toronto in exchange for Nik Antropov. Morris improves the defense and Antropov really improves the offense. Giving up on Dawes and Prucha is tough, but with their cap situation the Rangers probably would not have been able to resign them next year anyway. The Islanders traded their captain, Bill Guerin, to Pittsburgh in exchange for a conditional draft pick. It is initially a fifth-rounder, but could go as high as a third-rounder if the Penguins win a playoff round.

Last Night's Action: They Needed That!
New York doubled that lead in the second period thanks to some great work from the Dawes-Dubinsky-Prucha line. Prucha and Dawes got the goals and two points for their efforts, but Dubinsky had a wonderful game as well. Lundqvist lost the shutout in the third, but Montreal never seriously threatened and the Rangers earned two huge points.

Last Night's Action: A Garden Shootout
Rangers 2, Devils 1 (SO): Petr Prucha did enough to finally earn a second "E" for his name. He set up the only goal in regulation and scored the only goal in the shootout. Scott Gomez struck against his former club. The Rangers had other chances, including Chris Drury's breakaway in overtime, so this win helped them sleep better at night. Last Night's Action: Bruised In Buffalo
Henrik Lundqvist kept the Rangers in the game with 32 saves, but Ryan Miller was also up to the task. Miller made several great saves when it mattered and the Rangers couldn’t break through. Thomas Vanek had two goals for Buffalo while Hossa and Shanahan got the only tallies for New York.
Last Night's Action: Simon Snaps
The Islanders controlled the game for most of the first two periods and took a 1-0 lead off of a goal by Simon. But, the Rangers rallied and the newest Ranger, Paul Mara, scored off of the power play to tie the game at one.
Last Night's Action: New Jersey Reigns Supreme
While the calendar says February, the intensity reflected April or May as both teams battled until the end. New Jersey took the lead off of a goal by Brian Raflaski, but Petr Prucha tied things up late in the second period and after a fight, the teams came out scrapping in the third period.

Last Night's Action: The Rangers Get The Win
The Devils jumped out to an early lead off of a John Madden goal, but New York took a 2-1 lead in the third after Petr Prucha scored his ninth goal of the year. Thomas Pock was called for tripping with just under five minutes left and the Devils converted to tie the game.
Last Night's Action: Three Times The Fun
-Knicks 118 Memphis 117 (Triple OT): New York almost wrecked their season in the first game. After building an 18-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Knicks let it slip away and found themselves in a contest of endurance.
Thrashed
It looks like we have reached the crisis point of the Rangers’ season. Sunday they dropped their fifth game in a row, falling 3-2 in overtime to Atlanta. The loss was especially tough to take because of how well New York played in the first two periods of the game.
Into First
It seemed like history was going to repeat itself. Monday night the Rangers had taken a 2-0 lead only to see the Flyers score three-straight to beat them. Saturday, the Rangers took a 2-0 lead only to see the Flyers score three-straight, but that is where the pattern ended. This time, the Rangers clawed their way back and won the game 4-3 in overtime to take over first place in the Atlantic Division.
Rebirth of a Rivalry
In the mid-90’s it was the best local rivalry we had. Both teams were among the NHL elite and ferociously battled each other whenever they met. Then the Rangers fell on hard times and the Devils kept wining. Last night the two teams squared off at the Garden and when it was over New York had beaten New Jersey 3-1 and snapped their nine-game winning streak.
Henrik the Great
He won’t win, but Henrik Lundqvist deserves consideration for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s top rookie. He is third in save percentage, fourth in goal against average and has 18 wins. His latest victory came last night in Pittsburgh as he made several great saves to backstop the Rangers to a 4-2 victory.
One More Time
It was a night to pay tribute to one of the greatest hockey players to ever lace up skates, so it was fitting that another one of the all-time greats provided the winning goal. Long after the cheers for Mark Messier had died down, Jaromir Jagr scored just 14 seconds into overtime to give the Rangers a 5-4 victory over Edmonton.
Rangers Fall in Overtime- Again
As well as the Rangers have played this year; they have one glaring weakness that will stop them in the playoffs. They do not have a reliable goal scorer other than Jaromir Jagr. Yes, Petr Prucha has performed admirably, but he is only a rookie and tends to go hot and cold. Straka, Rucinsky and Rucchin are all talented, but they are better passers than finishers. When another team keys up to stop Jagr the Rangers are in trouble.
Problems Ahead?
The Rangers have hit their first rough patch of the season. After coming home from a successful road trip, they dropped one-goal games to Vancouver and Colorado before losing to New Jersey 3-1 last night. The loss leaves the Rangers with a one point lead over second place Philadelphia.
Dumped!
The Rangers had an opportunity to gage themselves against a first place team Tuesday night and they showed they still have some work to do if they want to make an impact in the playoffs. Vancouver out hustled the Rangers in the first half of the game and then held on in the second half to earn a 3-2 win.
Rangers Go Wild
After suffering a brutal loss to the Capitals on Saturday, the Rangers bounced back on Monday night beating the Minnesota Wild 3-1 at the Garden. Petr Prucha scored twice on the power play and looks very comfortable with his promotion to the top line. Martin Rucinsky playing in his second game since coming back from a knee injury had three assists while Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22 shots.
Bank Shot
The Rangers were losing 3-2 with six seconds left in the game when Dominic Moore got the puck behind the net. With no one to pass to, Moore did the only thing he could, try and bank the puck off of a player and hope for the best. The best happened as the puck deflected off of Jay Bouwmeester and into the net to force overtime and earn the Rangers a lucky point. No one could score in overtime so the game went a shootout where Petr Prucha scored the winning goal for the Rangers and gave them their second point of the night.
Shootout!
The Rangers and Islanders played 65 minutes of hockey without resolution last night, so they engaged in the first ever shootout for both teams. Three players from each team took shots and when it was over the Islanders had the lone goal and a 3-2 victory.
