Martha Stewart Just Tweet-Slapped You

Martha Stewart Just Tweet-Slapped You

Martha Stewart is on Twitter (though her page could use a little bit of design help—perhaps a lovely seersucker background for the upcoming spring season, or toile, which is always in season). Anywho, she's had a lot to say about the snow this week—particularly how we are all a bunch of pansies whilst in it (her words: "the snow is paralyzing New Yorkers—they are a bunch of wimps"). Then she started with the scaremongering, Tweeting that "New Yorkers are feeling sorry for themselves—the economy etc—but buck up. The worst is yet to come and it will not be snow." Martha just likes acting all hard because she did time. But don't get too down New Yorkers, Perez Hilton says when life hands you a snow-covered recession, you make recession cupcakes...and maybe Martha will have a recipe? [via Wonderwall] more ›

Times Endorsement, Check; Scores Endorsement, Check

Times Endorsement, Check; Scores Endorsement, Check

The Politicker has this hilarious photograph outside the East 60th Street location of strip club Scores touting a Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama ticket, as well as John McCain-Michael Bloomberg one. Nice to know that even though manager Harvey Osher and owner Richard Goldring failed to pay $3.1 million in taxes, they still believe in the democratic process. (Osher is serving weekend stints in prison; Goldring is getting probation.) more ›

It's Official: Xanadu's a Do!

It's Official: Xanadu's a Do!

New York Times managing editor Jill Abramson drew fire in March after her heated dinner party spat with playwright David Hare, in which she reportedly broke it down for Hare thusly: “We are the central arbiter of taste and culture in the city of New York.” Imperious but true. The Times draws a lot of water in this town when it comes to theater; and when there’s big money on the line they are now the dominant factor in determining whether a new production lives or dies. more ›

Paper Celebrates Nightlife (at 7:30pm)

Last night, just after 7pm, inside of a giant bubble in midtown, the Paper Nightlife Awards took place. In the world of fake awards ceremonies, this one takes the cake. Sadly, we didn't keep notes on who won what, so we cannot tell you who took home the "Best Designer with an Influence on the Nightlife Scene" award. We do recall La Esquina winning for "Restaurant with the Best Nightlife Scene." The white dude accepting the award snidely thanked "all the Mexicans" in his acceptance speech. Cultural exploitation is so fucking chic. more ›

Elsewhere in the ist-a-verse

Even though we are way way past school age, we still get a little melancholy at the close of summer. Fortunately, our friends across the -ist network know that the shenanigans don't need to end just because the big yellow buses are back on the roads. So, grab your sunscreen and your favorite hangover cure, as we take a tour of end of summer fun from -ist cities all over the damn place. more ›

Has Wright Stolen NYC's Baseball Hottie Title?

Has Wright Stolen NYC's Baseball Hottie Title?

Okay, David Wright is only relatively new, but we do think that the Post's cover story from a few days ago about Wright becoming the city's most popular baseball figure had something to it. The Post decided David Wright was "Mr. Wright" based on this summer's jersey and t-shirt sales, but maybe it's time for Derek Jeter to hand over the pretty boy reins to Wright - DJ is 32 and Wright is a baby at 23! And aren't we tired of Derek Jeter's revolving door of girlfriends? Jeter's supposed current girlfriend is out gallivanting with Nick Lachey or getting protected by Perez Hilton, which means just one thing: Who will David Wright be seen at 230 Fifth Avenue with? And does this David Wright bobblehead seem accurate? more ›
