Between 2008 and the end of 2010, six New York City bridges will turn 100 years old, and the newly formed New York City Bridge Centennial Commission will be making sure they're adequately feted. The six centennial spans are the Madison Avenue, Manhattan, Borden Avenue, Pelham Bay, University Heights and Queensboro bridges.

We'd like to thank all the nice businesses and apartment buildings on W. 116th St. that so thoughtfully cleared their sidewalks of slush this morning. It will be easy to thank them because there was only one place that actually shoveled their sidewalk. Come on people, you're a business with 400 square feet of sidewalk, how hard can it be to keep it clean? Snowfall totals across the city ranged from 1.9 inches at the airports to 3.1 inches in Pelham Bay Park. All that snow will be naturally removed by the end of the day today by rain and warmer weather.

A city employee moonlighting as a bouncer at The Bronx Cocktail was killed by a man angry that it was past last call. Raymond Barnett, 38, was killed when the man fired a gun into the bar around 5AM yesterday.

• Marcos Diaz waded into the water yesterday afternoon at the beginning of an attempt to swim around Manhattan two times. The 60-mile effort is being made to raise funds for children with leukemia in the Dominican Republic.

- Thing you've got bocce balls? Then you should test your stuff this weekend at the 12th Annual Citywide Bocce Tournament. Over 200 bocce enthusiasts from around the New York City area will compete Saturday and Sunday to see who's got the best. The tournament is free and open to adults of all ages. The prelims are in four of the five boroughs (sorry Manhattanites) with the finals to be played Sunday in Pelham Bay Park.

In all my years as a yellow cabbie, not once have I taken a fare to City Island in The Bronx. But I can’t say I’m surprised by this fact. Exactly 4,634 people live on that tiny island in Pelham Bay, so in a city of eight million it would be statistically unlikely to find one of these “clamdiggers” as they call themselves. Wi-Fi Salon is installing Wi-Fi into 10 city parks over the next few months. Central Park will have eight hot spots (including the zoo, Delacorte Theater, and Boathouse), as will Orchard Beach, Flushing Meadows, Van Cortlandt, Pelham Bay, Prospect, Riverside, Union Square, and Washington Square Parks. The Daily News says that Battery Park's hotspot, near Battery Gardens, is already running and that Wi-Fi Salon is paying the Parks Department for the right to install the network, hoping to encourage people to join its IP phone service. Whatever the reason, Gothamist can only say hurrah, because if there's one blogging goal we have, it's to live-blog monkeys throwing poo at us from the Central Park Zoo.
