Peahen Back In Captivity, What Will Escape The Bronx Zoo Next?

As we noted earlier, the Bronx Zoo peahen—after enjoying a couple days of freedom—has been recaptured by the zoo's handlers. Though as she explained on her Twitter, "I let them capture me so I didn't have to walk back." (Also, hide your cobras, because as it turns out, peafowl also eat reptiles.) more ›

According to the Daily News, three zoo workers have been chasing her down with a net but have thus far failed at capturing the bird. The trio did come close at Morris Park Avenue, just blocks from the zoo, where one handler hid in the grass and nearly netted it. A passerby told the paper, "This is so exciting. It's like I'm watching Animal Planet." more ›

Can We Please Name The Peacocks Of Morningside Heights?

You don't see this in Manhattan every day... unless you frequent Saint John the Divine, that is. A blogger in Morningside Heights spotted the white peacock on the grounds recently, complementing the more colorful ones that have been there for over two decades. This "sole white peacock" has been on the grounds for some years as well, and sometimes he even explores the city... earlier this year he was spotted strutting his stuff down Amsterdam Avenue! more ›
