  • Hurricanes 3, Islanders 2 (OT): This season, if the Isles were winning after 2 periods of play, you could count on them not to lose. Last night, for the first time, that wasn't the case. Despite having a 2-0 lead entering the 3rd period, the Islanders managed to lose to Carolina, which won its 2nd consecutive game after losing 4 straight. Cory Stillman scored the winning goal for the Hurricanes in overtime on a power play.

  • Islanders 6, Capitals 2: Ryan Smyth scored on the power play in his Islanders debut, as his new team warmed up for two critical games against the Rangers this week with a convincing win. Unlike their rivals, the Islanders did not rest the starting goalkeeper. Rick DiPietro has now started 14 straight games.
  • -Knicks 115, Bucks 107: Eddy Curry had 36 points -- his ninth straight over-20 performance -- and the Knicks gave the fans at Madison Square Garden plenty to cheer about. Curry dominated against Andrew Bogut and then Dan Gadzuric after Bogut faced early foul trouble. Nate Robinson chipped in 22, but, despite the win, the Knicks are only 3-8 at home this season. Curry's play, maligned here and everywhere it seems, has proven a pleasant surprise. Nine games is harder to discount as a fluke than three or four was.

Instead of watching the actual game, Gothamist advises Knicks’ fans to just watch Larry Brown’s press conference after it. Once again Brown ripped into to his team for a poor defensive effort, allowing Boston to shoot 57% from the field on route to a 123-98 loss that wasn’t even that close.

Isiah Thomas made perhaps the first move in what figures to be a series of unfortunate events for current Knicks head coach Lenny Wilkens by sacking assistant coach Dick Helm. Helm, a longtime Wilkens assistant, was the only assistant on the staff not handpicked by Thomas. His replacement is Brendan Suhr, a longtime Thomas compatriot.
