Poll Shows NYers Prefer Pataki To Paterson

The Post offers some perspective, by way of the Siena College poll released yesterday, about how voters feel about Governor David Paterson: "New Yorkers would rather have disgraced ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer as the state's chief executive than Gov. Paterson. The Siena College survey, released yesterday, also showed that more New Yorkers would prefer former Govs. Mario Cuomo or George Pataki than either Spitzer or Paterson." When asked to pick their choice from recent governors, 39% opted for Cuomo, followed by Pataki, Spitzer and then Paterson. Well, we suppose absence makes the heart grow fonder. Or that Spitzer should be wary about his comeback. That same survey found Paterson has a dismal 18% approval rating.

Whispers About Pataki For Senate in 2010

A source tells the AP that national Republicans "have approached" former governor George Pataki "about running for the U.S. Senate in 2010." Apparently Senator ("Big Bad") John Cornyn, who heads the GOP's national senate committee, met with Pataki on Tuesday, apparently discussing Pataki as a challenger to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010. Pataki did not accept or reject the offer, but after 12 years of Pataki, does NY State want more? We suppose that would put his PAC money to better use.

When someone picked them up and didn't immediately turn them over to the police or subway personnel, he or she was arrested. According to the police, Operation Lucky Bag netted 101 arrests...

Lawyers for the families of Joseph Graffagnino and Robert Beddia, the two firefighters who died in the August 18 Deutsche Bank fire, have filed notices of claim to sue city and state agencies for up to $180 million. The lawyers are claiming that the "reckless, willful and wanton actions and inactions" of the various agencies, including the FDNY, Port Authority and Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, caused the fatal response to the blaze. The Deutsche Bank,...

It's the not the first time the government has wasted lots of money and it won't be the last, but the Daily News special investigation into former Governor Pataki's never-built Museum of Women is great proof of how bureaucracy sucks. Originally conceived to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Women's Rights Convention in Seneca, the museum would have been at the south end of Battery Park City. Various grants were directed to the commission (chaired...
