Jasper Johns, a South Carolina native currently residing in Connecticut, first came to New York City in 1949 when he (briefly) attended Parsons School of Design. In 1954 he painted his first flag picture, and by 1958 he had his first one-man exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery. Today, The Met's director Philippe de Montebello states fact as the artist's new exhibit at the museum opens, saying "Without question, Jasper Johns is one of the greatest artists of our era."

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan album cover features a photograph of a 21 year old Bob Dylan and his girlfriend at the time, Suze Rotolo (an artist who teaches at the Parsons School of Design). History will tell you Rotolo inspired the songs "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" and "Boots of Spanish Leather." It will also tell you that Dylan wanted to (add a girl and) recreate this shot of James Dean.

HONEST, Designers/Filmmakers

Beginning July 22nd and running through September 3rd will be on display at The Gallery at Hermès. The opening reception is tomorrow and Gothamist can't wait to check out the photographs up close and personal. The theme of the year is Color and Fantasy, and the sneak peek of what we've seen certainly seems to live up to this motif. For an advanced look yourself go to the next page and scroll through some of our favorites. The entire show is comprised of photographs by students of Parsons School of Design.
