Television Watching: Adieu to Live At Five

Starting on September 10th, WNBC will be making a seismic shift on the local television landscape. Live at Five is gone, with infotainment show Extra taking its place at 5 p.m. with News 4 You remaining at 5:30 p.m. However, there will be not net loss of newscasts, since WNBC will be starting a new 7 p.m. newscast, but it is not as new an idea as it would seem, since WNYW aired a 7 p.m. newscast from 1987 to 1993. Celebrities: They're Just Like Us. Except They Cook.

The motley crew of celebs includes Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez, Ja Rule, Tom Arnold, Gabrielle Reece, Days of Our Lives' Allison Sweeney, supermodel Naomi Campbell, reigning Miss USA Chelsea Cooley and country singer Big Kenny. The show is hosted by none other than Alan Thicke from Growing Pains and the Food Network's Sandra Lee (who hosts Semi-Homemade, not high on the Gothamist love-list) will host the show (at least she's not judging). more ›

Soundtrack of Our Lives

Soundtrack of Our Lives

Swedish rock sensations Soundtrack of Our Lives return to New York for hopefully a rain-free evening at Castle Clinton. They put on a great live show (we caught them a while back at the Bowery Ballroom) and their music takes cues from The Who and seventies psychedelic bands like Pink Floyd and Yes. Lead singer, Ebbot Lundberg, has a Viking-like presence and in the performance we saw, he commanded the audience take to their knees and everyone happily conformed. more ›
