Tracy McGrady already thinks he isn't coming to NY, and NYTimes columnist William Rhoden thinks he should go to Charlotte, but the Daily News seized on a phrase from his MVP acceptance ceremony as proof he MIGHT be thinking of leaving Ohio: "Akron, Ohio, is my life and I love this city. No matter where my life takes me, I'm always from here." More wood for the fire: he didn't once mention Cleveland in his speech!

Bloomberg on NYC Tourism: Down Is the New Up!
Head cheerleader Bloomberg held a press conference in Bay Ridge yesterday to spin the stats on the city's 2009 tourist numbers. Although tourism was down nearly 4 percent from 2008, with the number of visitors to New York City declining by almost 2 million last year, the mayor struck a triumphant note, because those precious 45.25 million tourists defied a dire prediction that tourism would drop by 10 percent last year. "Last year, while tourism declined significantly in cities across the country, we fared far better than most. In fact, for the first time in 20 years, we were the most popular tourism destination in the country," Bloomberg told the press. Sorry, Orlando!
Finding Optimism on Your MetroCard
The latest public art project to glean some attention can fit right in your pocket... but it's gonna cost ya. The NY Times reports that seven million MetroCards were distributed starting in September, all containing the word "optimism" on the back. The MTA, perhaps seeing it as a way to brainwash unhappy customers, oversaw the project.
