Magazine Thinks Harlem, Williamsburg, And SoHo Are Boroughs

Amtrak, that train you take to escape New York from time to time, should be pretty familiar with the city, but the writers of their magazine may need some pointers. As a tipster just pointed out to us, their current issue refers to SoHo, Harlem, and Williamsburg as boroughs. more ›

NJ Pol's Facebook Post Calls Philadelphia Eagles "Gaybirds"

Last night's Giants game was great for fans—except for Jersey City Assemblyman—and police detective—Charles Mainor. Rick Perry Tries To Make Lemonade Out Of Oops-y Debate Lemons

Yesterday, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Perry became a national laughingstock/object of pity after an embarrassing moment during the 10th Republican debate when he claimed there were three federal agencies he would cut as President, but could only name two. After the debate, Perry tried to make the best of it, by telling reporters, "I'm glad I had my boots on tonight. I stepped in it out there," as his campaign tried to point out that Perry, the governor of Texas, is only human and not a "robot." But even as numerous Republican strategists called this the "death knell" of his campaignMike Murphy Tweeted, "Off screen, Dr. Paul is sadly administering the last rites to Rick Perry" while Mark McKinnon compared Perry's performance to the space shuttler Challenger—Perry said, "This ain't a day for quitting nothing." more ›

Calling Out Duane Reade For Confusing Chicago For NYC

Calling Out Duane Reade For Confusing Chicago For NYC

Duane Reade is a New York City shop to its very foundation, founded in 1960 by brothers who opened three stores here, with a warehouse located between Duane and Reade streets. These days the chain has even branded their products as NYC-centric, with bar codes in the shape of city landmarks, trail mixes named after different neighborhoods, and Brooklyn beers on tap. So how is it that they've confused Chicago for New York City? And how upset should we actually get about this? more ›

PSA: Your "Vegan" Tattoo Is Probably Made Of Animal Bones

Is this anonymous woman now the title-holder of the world's most regrettable tattoo? It may look simple enough, with the word "VEGAN" inked discreetly inside of her mouth. However, it turns out that black tattoo ink is more often than not made with burned animal bones. According to Boing Boing, this was pointed out to her on her Facebook page after she proudly posted the photo of her inked-up inner lip. The site writes that the "string of congratulations comes to an abrupt end when one friend points out that black tattoo ink is made from burnt animal bones, and thus the VEGAN in question will forever have an animal product in her mouth." more ›

Man Arrested For Taking Accidental Bank Deposit

Man Arrested For Taking Accidental Bank Deposit

Just because a bank makes a mistake doesn't mean you get to benefit: A Long Island man was arrested for refusing to give up the $11,270 accidentally deposited into his Capital One account. Newsday reports that Carlos Morales' account was "mistakenly credited"—which really means "A bank teller had erroneously deposited these funds." Morales withdrew the money over a five-month period and Nassau County's Crimes Against Property Squad said even though Capitol One "contacted the defendant on numerous occasions asking the defendant to return the funds," Morales didn't respond. He is now charged with grand larceny. Also, if the ATM "accidentally" gives you more money than it should, report it and return it or you could faces charges. more ›

Continental Sends 10-Year-Old To Newark, Not Cleveland

Continental Sends 10-Year-Old To Newark, Not Cleveland

Continental Airlines apologized after admitting that "miscommunication among staff members resulted in the child being boarded on the wrong aircraft." Jonathan Kamens had taken daughter Miriam, 10, to Boston's Logan Airport and explicitly spoke to Continental agents about Miriam's solo trip to Cleveland to visit her grandparents, "They seemed like they knew what they were doing. The paperwork" had her flight number, destination, and phone numbers for himself and his in-laws. But Miriam ended up at Newark International Airport, not Cleveland, because the gate was being used by two different flights and the girl was put on the wrong flight. Kamens said he only found out that Miriam never made it to Cleveland as scheduled when his father-in-law called—and Continental couldn't tell him where his daughter was for 45 minutes. While Continental rebooked Miriam on another flight and she made it there a few hours later, her dad questions the airline's procedures, "I'm sure there are rules that the flight crew is supposed to verify the number of people on the plane matches the number of people on the manifest." more ›
