Doctor Who Is Filming In NYC This Week!

Have you seen this man? Have you seen this strange blue box? We ask because—deep breath, geeks, deep breath—Doctor Who is currently filming in New York City! Yup, it seems in the upcoming season of the very-long-running beloved British sci-fi drama, the last Time Lord and his companions Amy Pond and Rory (in one of their last episodes riding the TARDIS) are coming to the Big Apple. And unlike when the Doctor took Martha here, this time the role of Central Park will not be played by a field in Wales. more ›

We Aren't At Hogwarts Anymore: New Photos Of Daniel Radcliffe As Allen Ginsberg At Columbia

When we first heard that Daniel Radcliffe would be the latest to portray Allen Ginsberg on fllm, we wondered if Kill Your Darlings would have any focus on the 1944 murder of David Kammerer, the 33-year-old "stalker" of Lucien Carr. The production has been filming all over New York for weeks, and most recently settled in at Columbia University. The school is where Carr (who already knew William S. Burroughs from St. Louis) met Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac—and the surrounding area is where the slaying occurred. more ›

Photos: The Coen Brothers Have Taken The Village Back To The 1960s

The East Village has been transformed into Greenwich Village of the 1960s, thanks to the Coen Brothers, who have been filming their period piece Inside Llewyn Davis in the area. Today is said to be the biggest transformation, with more storefronts and old cars taking over 1st and 2nd streets (between 2nd Avenue and Avenue A). Here are some photos of how things were shaping up yesterday. more ›

Video: Dropping By The Royal Tenenbaums House In Harlem

The Onion AV Club has a sweet video segment for fans of Wes Anderson's third feature The Royal Tenebaums. Shot on location in NYC and released just months after the 9/11 attacks, the detached family comedy at first seemed a little too twee and fussy for that particular historical moment. But over time, we've fallen hard for the Royal T's subtle humor and nuanced ensemble performances—and while you may not catch it at first glance, to quote Paul Rudd, there's a lot of pain behind those eyes (it's just delicately understated). Anyway, that gorgeous house! It's still there, tucked away on a residential block in Harlem, and the AV Club recently dropped by with one of the location scouts to talk about how they found it and Anderson's vision: more ›

"Get on Tapas" Fooled Brooklyn Locals

In May, Serious Eats alerted to the closing of a pet food store on Prospect Park West in Brooklyn, as the storefront was stripped down to its original "beautiful stained glass sign from an old, possibly 1930s-era sweets shop." Soon enough a tapas restaurant popped up, called Get on Tapas (get it?), and locals were checking out the menu for the new neighborhood spot...only to discover they were fooled by Hollywood. more ›

The Taking of DUMBO

The Taking of DUMBO

Following an announcement last September of the film getting the remake treatment, The Taking of Pelham 123 started scouting NYC nooks and crannies to film in. Now shooting has commenced, and today Denzel Washington & Co. can be found in DUMBO. Unless, of course, this is a set for The Talking of Telham 123, as the sign suggests -- in which case, don't expect to spot John Travolta in the 'nabe. more ›
