Staten Island singer/songwriter Ingrid Michaelson found fame through the small screen before hitting airwaves nationwide. Last year one of her songs was featured in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy (video), only to be followed by another one of her songs being picked up for an Old Navy ad (video). Needless to say she went from getting write-ups in the Staten Island Advance, to getting them in the NY Times.

It's been snowing out lately, and thanks to The World's Largest Snow Globe, it's going to be snowing indoors soon as well. Standing at over twenty feet tall, the monstrosity of holiday cheer will be arriving at The Pond at Bryant Park next week (December 14th to 18th). Yesterday, hundreds of people gathered for two different marches in Queens to protest the police shooting of Sean Bell, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield and police conduct in the community overall. A chapter of the NAACP organized a march of hundreds of people from Jamaica Avenue and 168th Street to where the shooting took place, at Liverpool and 94th Avenue. The other march was organized by the New Black Panther Party, which started at the shooting scene and ended at Jamaica and 168th, and offered much angrier words.

The folks at Old Navy have been looking for a new doggie mascot for their marketing campaigns and had asked the public to enter their dogs in the competition. You can see many entrants online - vasser seems to be wearing an Old Navy shirt, nico looks like a toy and china is wearing a birthday hat! But if you want to see some hopeful dogs and their stageparent owners, head to Union Square, you'll see hundreds and hundreds of dogs and owners patiently waiting to meet with the Old Navy casting director in hopes their pup will get to prance around with a B-list celebrity in a kitschy commercial.

Do you want your dog to be the envy of all the other dogs in the dog park? Well then, you might want to consider taking the next few days to groom that pup of yours, because this Thursday there's a canine casting call. Magic, the Old Navy mascot, has retired...and his replacement is needed.

As the Daily News put it, Savanna Johnson "took her burning desire for the hottest fashions one step too far." Which doesn't exactly describe the crazy circumstances surrounding Ms. Johnson's 60th arrest, but it gives you some idea of the tabloid nature of her story.

How do you deal with crossing the street?

Depending on your tastes, the answer to this question could be different, so we can start with places not to shop, such as Herald Square (if you put a roof over 34th street between 5th and 7th, it would look like every mall in Suburbia) or the new Time Warner Center (does anyone actually shop there? Besides the Whole Foods, anyway?) or most of Fifth Avenue for that matter (yeah, Saks, Bergdorf's, Bloomingdales, etc. are all part of the NYC shopping experience, but they are also big tourist attractions).
