As steak lovers are increasingly aware, it is a very pricey time for top notch red meat these days—which also may be for the best? Still, for those who love a choice cut but don't have the half-Benjamin needed for a New York Strip there are options. Like burgers.
3 Steakhouse Mini-Burgers And Booze Lunch...For $22?
Old Homestead Will Hit 10 Millionth Diner Tomorrow
Just 708 meals away from their target, the 142-year-old Old Homestead steakhouse will likely see their 10 millionth customer tomorrow, and are planning to celebrate the "Mega-Mignon-Aire Day" with free steak. The lucky carnivore who walks in at just the right moment will receive free dinner and drinks for two, every week, for life (triple bypass coverage not included). Amazingly, reservations are still available for two all day long tomorrow. Owner Greg Sherry told the Post, "We have been waiting since 1868 for this."

MTA And TWU Take Their Beef To A New Level
Where do the MTA's executive director and the TWU's president lunch? The Old Homestead! The NY Times reveals that Executive Director Elliot Sander ordered the rack of lamb while TWU President Roger Toussaint had the herb-rubbed roast chicken (what, no one ordered the Kobe Beef Hamburger?) and split the bill. If only we were a fly or a cow on the wall! We bet they discussed how much Pataki sucks, how the real time information boards will take forever to install, and how the new subway cars are pretty cool.
As the Patty Turns: A Hamburger Today Launches
Our good friend behind America's Pizza Weblog, Slice, had been hinting about a new project for a while, but he wouldn't give up the goods, even when we tried to bribe him with some high-grade fresh mozzarella. But today we know why the project was so hush-hush: It's a hamburger blog. A Hamburger Today will be "dedicated to hamburgers. And cheeseburgers. And anything burger-related." And that is a platform Gothamist can support 120%. There are posts about the Shake Shack, Island Burger, and Lucky Burger already, among others restaurant posts and some hamburger crime-related stories (a missing Hamburglar statue), making Gothamist ridiculously hungry so soon after eating lunch.
Welcome to New York. Now, Duck!
The event had been months in the making. Our team, the Fifth Avenue Wine Club Society had been training hard for weeks; keeping to a very strict regimen. And then, the day finally arrived -- the Duckathlon 2005. A culinary scavenger hunt of sorts in honor of D'Artagnan's 20th "Birdday," food and wine lovers from all over the world congregated in New York to compete and help celebrate the occasion. It was tough, but someone had to do it.
Gothamist's Favorite and Most Wanted in 2003
You can tell a lot about a year by seeing which posts were popular, and from Gothamist's standpoint, it's been a banner year for our readers who are perverts or nerds (we're hoping the loyal readers are both). Here are a few of our most popular posts: Thoughts on the Matrix Reloaded; 100 Best Songs; when we pretended to know all about friendster messages; Paris Hilton sex tapes and her SNL appearance; Nicole Richie's racial identity; What not to do when you blog; Jelly Kelly; Best Movie Sex Scenes; Michael Jackson's mugshot; Nudist camps for teenagers; Blackout Edition; Lever House Restaurant; Metrosexuals; Hating Lauren Weisberger (related, Weisberger on her boss Anna Wintour ), Jayson Blair, Blair Hornstine; Larry Wachowski's possible sex change; anything on teenaged stars, speficially Hilary Duff (related, her nutty fans); the New York City Blackout Edition; and our Events page, brought to life by editor Mindy and intern Willa.
