Queens Councilman Tony Avella has introduced a bill that would ban the existence of carriage horses in NYC. Another Queens Councilman, James Gennaro, is looking to preserve the practice of equine cabbies that populate the streets of and around Central Park. Manhattan council members are perhaps showing some political horse sense from bowing out of this particular fight. While wanting to preserve the tradition of the horse-drawn carriage trade, Gennaro is also suggesting a...

We've heard of 'roid rage and road rage, but who knew there was a rooster rage (outside of a farm, at least). The ASPCA responded to a call about a headless rooster on the fire escape of an Inwood apartment building, and found out that 52 year old Humberto Rodriguez had bit his pet rooster's head and broke its wings. Rodriguez said he got mad because the rooster attacked his pet baby pigeons. OF COURSE that's why you'd bite a rooster's head - because different kinds of fowl love coexisting in the same apartment. Rodriguez was arrested and could face jail time. And in case you were wondering, yes, it is illegal to keep a rooster in your apartment (pet pigeons, we're not so sure).

But it was scary this past Saturday when the NY Times looked at the city's evacuation plans and got officials, in spite of all their "planning," to admit that residents don't really know what they would need to do if there was an emergency. But you can find out what you need to do by checking out the city's hurricane page or calling 311.

Okay, Gothamist has to give it up for the Diddy. P. Diddy's entry is going to bring more attention to the (ING) New York City Marathon that the New York Road Runners Club knows what to do with. We're not sure if this is a good or bad thing yet (Pros: Supporting great causes, showing that running can be for anyone; Cons: Takes attention away from the top runners and turns the event into a media circus), but it's brilliant either way, especially when he's saying things like, "Every child needs quality education and health care to train for the marathon of life," at his press conference. And his run is branded: "Diddy Runs the City," which is so perfect. Check out the official website: diddyrunsthecity.com (be sure to look at the "Host Committee").
