Last Night's Action: Yanks Make Deals; Mets Sweep

The question is, will they make a move before the trading deadline? This seems to be the year, so giving up youth for a proven pitcher would be prudent, but the ghosts of the Kazmir trade still haunt the franchise and may keep Omar from improving his club. more ›

Baseball's Trading Deadline Approaches

Baseball's Trading Deadline Approaches

For the Mets, the trading deadline represents opportunity and a time for caution. With a 12-game lead in the division, New York doesn’t necessarily need to make a trade, but it may be in their best interests to do so. If, and that’s a big if, a premiere pitcher becomes available, say a Zito or Willis, will Omar pull the trigger? With Steve Trachsel and El Duque struggling and John Maine and Mike Pelfry still unknown quantities, adding another starter would transform the Mets from playoff contender to playoff favorite. more ›

-Reds 4, Mets 2: Maybe the Mets want to take another road trip. They're 1-3 on their current homestand after winning eight of nine on their road trip. Tonight, they looked unspectacular against Cincinnati's Bronson Arroyo. Of course, no one expected the Mets to continue the blistering pace of their road trip, and their fans should be pleased with Orlando Hernandez's decent performance against the talented Reds offense. He'll be a useful fifth starter if he can pitch like this, but manager Willie Randolph should be wary of overusing him. He has a history of tiring late in the season. more ›

Spring is almost here! Pitchers and catchers started reporting to camps in Florida today. In Port St. Lucie the Mets are welcoming new faces Billy Wagner, Carlos Delgado and Paul Lo Duca, as well as several others. In Tampa, the Yankees have several new pitchers, Kyle Farnsworth, Octavio Dotel, Mike Myers and Ron Villone joining their staff. more ›

Welcome to New York, Alex

Welcome to New York, Alex

In the bottom of the ninth with one runner on and one out, Gary Sheffield (hands down the Yankee MVP) launched an Octavio Dotel pitch into the Left field seats tying the game 6-6. In the Bottom of the 11th it was A-Rod's turn to play hero, hitting, what looked like a lazy fly ball to left field, that carried over the left field wall. The home run may be viewed as the moment that A-Rod officially became a Yankee. He had been mired in a slump this entire season with runners in scoring position, but last night that all changed with his walk-off home run. more ›

Yanks Jump Out Early, Get Bombed Late

Yanks Jump Out Early, Get Bombed Late

Getting four runs off Mulder is like getting a date with Carmen Electra, it just doesn't happen that often. The Yankees pitching continues to be a problem. The offense has been consistent all year, but the pitching is another story. The Yankees are not worried about losing a few games in the regular season to the Oakland A's, but the signs are there for a mediocre off-season, due to the poor pitching. In the playoffs you win games 3-2 or 2-1, not 10-9. That is what concerns the Yankee fan, what is going to happen in October when we match up aagainst three top notch pitchers. more ›

Clemens Pitches Gem, Yet Mets Win

Clemens Pitches Gem, Yet Mets Win

The go ahead run came off a home run by forgotten catcher/first baseman Jason Phillips in the 13th inning. Batting .172 entering the game, he was the last person that anyone expected to hit a game winning home run, but in the 13th inning, you'll take anything you can get. The Mets went 4-3 on their road trip, which included a split four game series against the Diamondbacks and a series win against the Central Division leading Astros. more ›
