Russell Simmons Promises More Branding Of Occupy Wall Street
Russell Simmons has been attempting to co-opt the Occupy Wall Street movement for quite some time now, even though not everyone wants him to be there (he has been asked to leave countless times—see below video). Yet he returns to show his face, push his Rush Card debit card, make a few statements to the cameras, and get his photo taken. Recently, he even pat his pal Jay-Z on the back for introducing an "Occupy All Streets" t-shirt to the Rocawear clothing line. Thing is, Rocawear is profiting from the sales, and not giving a dime to the protesters (so far, that fact hasn't changed). Now Billboard magazine has published an interview with Simmons, after tossing him some softballs last week. When asked about the t-shirt, Simmons says:

Last night, GlobalGrind scored an exclusive one-sentence email from Jay-Z in which the rapper denied bowing to the pressure to pull the "Occupy All Streets" T-shirts that Rocawear so shrewdly "borrowed" from the Occupy Wall Street movement. We couldn't find them at the time, but now they've resurfaced on the company's website. They're on back-order though, and won't ship until December 16, just in time for the season of unchecked consumerism. This holiday season, give the gift of hypocrisy!

"What better way to show your support for the Occupy Wall Street Movement than with a dope tee?" That's what Jay-Z's Rocawear company wants to know. Certainly we can't think of any better way, so dope tee it is! Except, the hard-earned cash you spend on that tee will only help you plump up the pockets of one of the richest men on the planet: Jay-Z. The rapper/entrepreneur showed off his "Occupy All Streets" shirt earlier this week, posing in it for a pic with mogul and OWS supporter Russell Simmons, which instantly raised eyebrows over whether he was planning to mass produce and profit from the design (which isn't exactly original).

In today's installment of "1%ers rep Occupy Wall Street," Kanye West and Jay-Z hit Madison Square Garden last night for their Watch the Throne tour, and oh, my! Look at that shirt! Russell Simmons took to Twitter for a typically restrained, thoughtful analysis: "Jay-Z just took #OccupyWallStreet to a whole new level. wowowowowowoow."
