The ACMA (Alliance for Creative Music Action) is a group of musicians, artists and supporters of the arts who are joining together "as a pressure group to bring awareness about the needs of art in our communities." Tonight they'll be holding a Town Hall Meeting, demanding that the city provide "an adequate subsidized performance space in Manhattan." The meeting will be held just a block away from Tonic, a recent casualty amongst downtown performance spaces.

Yesterday a new bike safety law went into effect. The law requires all commercial delivery workers, which include delivery workers and bike messengers, to wear helmets on the job as well as have a horn and headlight on their bikes. And apparently the bike messengers are in an uproar about it. One tells NY Metro that wearing a helmet is "something that’s not cool. You look kind of dumb. I really don’t want to wear a helmet, but I will.”

It's St. Patrick's Day, the day when New Yorkers are greeted by the sight of green bagels. Today's parade starts at Fifth Avenue and 44th Street at 11AM, and goes north to 86th Street. However, some firefighters will be protesting the decision not to allow firefighters to wear green berets during the parade by standing on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; another group protesting the parade is the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization. And underscoring how important the parade is to politicians, some people are criticizing Attorney General and likely Democratic gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer for snubbing the parade and missing the chance to kiss the cheeks of babies (Spitzer's people say he's already attending mass at St. Patrick's, but critics point out he'll be at a tort reform meeting). Missing the parade is almost as bad as being a politician who is not wearing any green - watch WNBC to see the parade and how green in incorporated into wardrobes.
Although the fall chill is starting to sneak in, it's never too late in the season for Otto's gelato. The Chowhounds report that the much-awaited gelato cart is now scooping at the Northwestern entrance to the park. The cart was expected to arrive during the summer, but apparently Mario and his team ran into some permit problems.
The article cites numerous occasions where the interaction between owner and GM are less than perfect. From the Boss summoning his GM down to Tampa in the off-season, to the Boss deriding Cashman for the play of the team, to Steinbrenner making moves without letting Cashman know. The question is whether or not his relationship with Steinbrenner is enough to drive Cashman away from the team with the biggest pockets in baseball.
I see notices for Sample Sales all the time, such as the listings on the Manhattan Users Guide. My question is, I'm not a size 0 and I don't want to be embarrassed showing up to one of these sample sales only to be the only person there with a curvy figure. Any advice on sample sale workings?
