Novak Djokovic's season isn't over, but the Serbian may have put together the best year ever in men's tennis. With a four-set win over Rafael Nadal that proved much more enjoyable than the scoreline, Djokovic won the US Open, secured his third Grand Slam title of 2011 and improved his record to 64-2. His only losses: a semifinal loss at the French Open to Roger Federer and a loss in a final to Andy Murray the Cincinnati Masters Series event. We owns a 6-0 record against Nadal, the previous World No. 1 this season and has beaten him in two Grand Slam finals (Wimbledon was the other) and four Masters series finals -- including two on clay. The match, played Monday after rain wreaked havoc on the Open's schedule, saw plenty of service breaks and took more than four hours. After falling two sets to none down, Nadal needed everything he had to take the third set in a tiebreak after Djokovic served for the set. But he was gassed in the fourth, and Djokovic continued his mastery over the Spaniard.

U.S. Open Not a Foregone Conclusion
Roger Federer has won the last four U.S. Open titles, but he won't be the favorite when the tournament starts tomorrow at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing. That honor will go to Rafael Nadal, the new world No. 1 and winner of the French Open, Wimbledon and the Olympics this summer. Federer, 27, has looked mortal or worse this season, and Nadal, 22, has peaked while displaying an all-surface versatility that had eluded him in previous summers. For the first time since the 2004 Australian Open, Federer will not be the top seed at a Grand Slam event.

- Yankees 6 Royals 3: At this point, the YES Network should just play a “ch-ching” sound everytime A-Rod steps up to the plate. After hitting a home run for the 5th-consecutive game on Sunday, A-Rod has 52 for the season, the most for a Yankee since Mantle and Maris hit 54 and 61 in 1961. He also has 138 RBI’s with 19 games left, which puts him in line to have the most RBI’s as a Yankee since Joe DiMaggio had 155 in 1948.
