Back in January, the LAPD announced that they were actively pursuing leads into the slaying of Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls/The Notorious B.I.G., who was killed in a drive-by shooting in LA in 1997. Although we still don't know what any of those new leads might be, the FBI released a 359-page file today (released under the Freedom of Information Act!) consisting of all their info on the case between 1997 and 2005, when it was first closed. And it turns out that everything we thought may be true about the murder may actually really be true!
New FBI Files Reveal That Biggie Was Killed...By Someone
The Fourteenth Anniversary Of The Death Of Biggie Smalls
Today is the 14th anniversary of the death of Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls, aka The Notorious B.I.G. Biggie was killed in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles, in an unsolved case which was "reinvigorated" recently. While conspiracy theories abound as to who was behind the murder (was it the result of an East Coast/West Coast hip-hop rivalry? did Suge Knight call the hit?), friends, relatives and fans have taken to Twitter and other outlets to praise and remember the king of Bed-Stuy (revisit his first public rap duel here).
The LAPD Is Back On The Hunt For Biggie's Killer
According to CNN, the LAPD is once again actively pursuing leads into the 1997 slaying of Christopher Wallace, aka Biggie Smalls/The Notorious B.I.G. One law enforcement source told them that the unsolved case was "reinvigorated" months ago due to new information, although they didn't reveal any other details about said info. But in addition to the LAPD and the L.A. County District Attorney's Office, it seems that the FBI is now involved with the case. Might that imply there's some sort of conspiracy afoot?
Diddy Hosting Party In Brooklyn Is "A Big Deal"
Sean "Diddy" Combs, having dodged his fake wife in East Hampton, is headed to Brooklyn. And he's making such a big deal about it! The rapper will be hosting a party in the borough on Tuesday night for Notorious B.I.G. on the 13th anniversary of his death (he's also trying to make March 9th "Biggie Day"). Brokelyn reports the invite-only extravaganza will be held at the Lab, a Bed-Stuy club. Diddy told MTV News, “I’m going to Brooklyn. It’s gonna be the first time I’m throwing a party in Brooklyn. I’m from Harlem. Everybody in Harlem knows you don’t usually go over the bridge to Brooklyn. It’s a big, big deal.”
Video: Biggie's Bed-Stuy
Last week the NY Times took a closer look at the role of Bedford-Stuyvesant in Notorious, the film documenting the life of Christopher Wallace. The movie is also an homage to the neighborhood, and the paper notes that "these very locations, inspired the frank rhymes that made him the Notorious B.I.G." Below is an old clip of Biggie in Bed-Stuy at age 17, allegedly it's from "his first public rap duel."
Less Money, Less Problems
It's been over a year since the casting took place for the Notorious B.I.G. movie, aptly called Notorious (much of it was filmed in Biggie's home borough of Brooklyn), and now the biopic is about to hit the big screen. Rolling Stone has the details on the soundtrack, and you can catch the movie yourself in theaters starting January 16th (the New York premiere was last night). Watch the trailer after the jump (listen up for this quote: "What kind of grown-ass man calls himself Puffy?").
Diddy Didn't Shoot Tupac...or Diddy?
Though the mystery has never been solved, many have attached Sean "Diddy" Combs and Christopher Wallace (Biggie Smalls/The Notorious B.I.G.) to the 1994 attack and 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur -- sparking an East Coast/West Coast rap war, leading to Biggie's 1997 murder and escalating the "no snitching" policy into law. The accusation even came from Tupac himself after the attack in 1994.
Urban Outfitters' Bizarre Brooklyn Ad
This advertisement for an Urban Outfitters store opening tomorrow among the antique shops and Middle Eastern markets of Atlantic Avenue, in Brooklyn, is rather befuddling.
