For years now residents of North Brooklyn have been dealing with L Hell, in which L train service is either cut entirely or severely reduced over the weekends. Apparently restaurant and bar owners only recently noticed. Yesterday a group of them met with Brooklyn State Senator Daniel Squadron to bitch about how it is hurting their business. Not that there is anything that can be done!

Brooklyn Power Plants Get Demolished, Developed
Earlier there was news of a luxury condo leveling a church and digging up graves, now word is in that the South Williamsburg power plant on Kent Avenue will meet the same fate. The Brooklyn Paper reports that Con Edison has finally admitted its plan to demolish the defunct power plant and neighborhood landmark.
Neighbors of the abandoned Kent Avenue power plant knew something was up back in March, when workers started tearing holes into the 102-year-old red brick building, which has been inactive since the late 1990s.Up until now, Con Ed has stated that they've just been “cleaning up the site," and while they still maintain they have no definite plans for the waterfront property -- no one in the real estate business is buying that.
Brooklyn's New Outdoor Concert Space...or Power Plant
With McCarren Park Pool soon becoming a place where one will hear children splashing in the water instead of hipsters sighing whilst listening to their new favorite band, the search is on for a new outdoor concert space. Of course, the venue simply wouldn't do unless it was in the mecca of indie rock, Williamsburg/Greenpoint.

He's been doing a series of pieces featuring lamp-posts and street lights leaning in to kiss each other- and apparently he has just installed a new one somewhere in North Brooklyn- write in if you spot it!
Has Crime Come Back to Williamsburg?
An informal poll of 50 residents and business owners has the NY Post claiming that "petty thieves and drug users [are tying] to reclaim the streets after more than a decade of plummeting crime rates." After welcoming the gentrification, it seems like people are experiencing more muggings, house break-ins, violent assaults, and crack vials on the sidewalks than they would expect, given the quickly gentrifying neighborhood. One woman tells the Post, "I've seen it clean up and get better, but now crime is going back up. I was mugged last year right in front of my building, and a week later, my friend was mugged. It's scary." But the problem may lie in the gentrification, since people are feeling more secure and therefore may not be as careful in locking up and watching out. Police also say that more people need to report crimes, in order for them to catch the criminals.
