Sure, office curmudgeon John Del Signore railed against The No Pants Subway Ride earlier this week, but we're happy to report that he's been coming in to the office sans pants all week and it has really turned him around on this whole thing. So we lift our ban, for now, on No Pants Subway Ride coverage... because we don't really have a ban on coverage, just a desire to see them take it to the next level. And yes, there's MORE to say! Actually, there's nothing more to say. What you just read was FILLER, all we've really got is this new video of the action. Enjoy!
Live! Nude! Girls! Or, Whatever, Here's Some No Pants Subway Ride Video
No More No Pants Subway Ride, Please
Yesterday was the 11th Annual No Pants Subway Ride, in which hundreds of "zany" "individuals" rode the subway without pants on, taking photos of each other and giggling about how crazy their behavior is. We've had just about enough of this formulaic nonsense and want it stop. Not because we're against fun, but because New York City is fun enough without this inane exercise in half-assed exhibitionism. We don't blame you if you live in say, Phoenix (the stunt happens in over 50 cities worldwide), and this is what you need to alleviate the crushing boredom of living in a bleak uncultured wasteland. But with all due respect to the imaginative folks at Improv Everywhere, New Yorkers deserve better, fresher pranks. Here are five reasons why we would like you to keep your pants on next year:
Reminder: No Pants Subway Ride Annual Flashing Happening Today
Don't say we didn't warn you about this (multiple times): the 11th Annual No Pants Subway Ride is being thrown by Improv Everywhere today. Hundreds of pants-hating straphangers will bum-rush the subway starting at 3 p.m., showing off their pantaloons and skivvies with reckless controlled abandon.
Video: The No Pants Subway Ride Used To Be More Fun
This Sunday, January 8th, the No Pants Ride will be happening once again (don't say we didn't warn you) for what the Improv Everywhere organizers say is the 11th year (though it feels like eternity). So before we ready ourselves to see more boxers on the subway cars this weekend, let's take a look back. The most shocking thing revealed in this video below: the No Pants Ride was actually pretty fun during its first trial run.
No Escaping No Pants Subway Ride, Dropping Trou Next Month
Has it really been 11 years of this? Sigh. For those of you who just love to get down to your skivvies and ride the rails, you'll want to mark Sunday, January 8th, 2012 on your calendars. That is when the 11th Annual No Pants Subway Ride is being thrown by Improv Everywhere. For the rest of you? Consider this fair warning to take the next month to prepare pithy things to say to the guy in the Superman underoos trying to pretend he isn't carefully registering every glance from his fellow straphangers.
Video: Pantless Subway Riders Ride Again
In case the bazillion photos were not enough, there's finally some video documentation of this year's No Pants Subway Ride! Just regular YouTube video, not 3-D, not IMAX, not Smell-O-Vision... and not once is there a rat attack. But maybe next year one of those elements can be added... because how many years in a row can one look at pantless subway riders?
More Photos: No Pants Subway Ride 2011
Haven't had your fill of bare-skinned straphangers yet? Here are some of the official Improv Everywhere photos documenting this year's No Pants Subway Ride, which included around 3500 riders. The pranking organization promises official video later this week (fingers crossed for IMAX 3-D!), but for now, enjoy this colorful still documentation from photographer Katie Sokoler.
First Peek At 2011 No Pants Subway Ride
Hundreds of people in their knickers, skivvies, and pantaloons bum-rushed the subway today as part of Improv Everywhere's annual No Pants Subway Ride. One reader who participated in the event said, "They asked who the oldest and youngest people were in the group. The oldest was 76, the youngest was 3." We'll have more pictures tomorrow, and if you have your own shots from today's event, send them to us at photos[at]gothamist[dot]com, or upload them to Flickr and tag them "gothamist."
No Pants Subway Ride Flashes Through Today!
Just a reminder that today is Improv Everywhere's annual No Pants Subway Ride, so if you are confused as to why someone has chosen to go pantless on a 30 degree day, this is most likely the reason. The ride starts at 3:00 p.m. sharp at six different meeting points, and please, no phones! Improv Everywhere writes, "Please leave your cameras at home and resist the temptation to snap photos with your iPhone, etc. while the event is happening....During the ride we really want people to enjoy the experience of participating rather than documenting."
No Pants Ride Will Ride Again!
It's that time of year again... time to take those pants off, get on the crowded subway, and make some awkward straight-faced eye contact with the fully clothed straphangers. The No Pants Subway Ride returns this Sunday! If you want to take part in the 10th annual ride (hosted by Improv Everywhere), there will be six meet-up locations (get details on where right here)—and if you want to avoid the event, we suggest being in your safe place by 3 p.m. on Sunday.
No Pants in '08!
It's that special time of year again when Charlie Todd and a troupe of others that like to de-pants every January go underground for a nice, brisk ride on the subway. As usual, you're all invited (warning: you may be arrested), but if you show up you must not have pants on! They warn, in all caps, that "THIS IS A PARTICIPATORY EVENT. DO NOT SHOW UP UNLESS YOU PLAN TO TAKE YOUR PANTS OFF. THIS INCLUDES NEWS MEDIA." Hear that "new media"? You are not exempt (though there's a possible loophole here in which one could wear skirts, shorts or a dress).
