A rendering of Brooklyn's proposed City Tech Tower, designed by Renzo Piano, at Tillary and and Jay Street sent some into speculation mode, especially since its height seemed to be up to 1,000 feet tall. Which would make just about twice the height of the 512-foot tall Williamsburgh Savings Bank, currently the tallest building the Brooklyn. However, the rendering of the building is apparently old. A representative at Forest City Ratner, the development company which......

Gothamist would expect Chicago area sports teams to wear special green uniforms just because it's a city that dumps green dye into their river (our rivers can be greenish, thanks to other factors). But when we were checking out the Knicks' website, we learned that the Knicks will wear green uniforms for the first time, thanks to special sponsor, Tourism Island. And while Gothamist thinks this is lame, we understand why the Knicks undertook the......

This past weekend as the NJ Nets trounced the Boston Celtics, the Nets' masoct, Sly the Silver Fox, celebrated his 9th birthday. Like many 9 year olds in New Jersey, he had Carvel ice cream; unlike many 9 year olds, he had the Nets Dancers on hand. What's charming is that various mascots from all walks of sporting life come to help celebrate birthdays - there's the Raptor from Toronto, Clutch from the Houston......

If there's one thing that rings true this morning, after the NJ Nets managed to eke out a win over the Detroit Pistons in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals, taking a 3 games to 2 lead in the series, it's that winning is ugly. Very ugly. It took three overtimes, tons of missed free throws, and 8 players fouling out for the game to end. But, hey, at least the Nets won. While......

The Nets haven't been this exciting ever, not even when they did make the finals. If it's not Brooklyn wanting/protesting them, it's the team's current performance. The NJ Nets fired Coach Byron Scott and put their assistant coach, Lawrence Frank, in as interim coach. Good to know the Nets have faith in someone who looks like he's 12, 14 tops. ESPN on some of Frank's challenges. A Q & A with Lawrence Frank. And vote......

It's not the NJ Nets moving to Atlantic Avenue, but this would spell a certain doom for certain parts of Brooklyn: Wal–Mart is considering moving to Coney Island. Unsurprisingly, community advocates are unhappy with the idea of developer Howard Bullard bringing the biggest retailer in America next to Keyspan Park, home of the beloved minor leaguers, the Brooklyn Cyclones. The executive director of a neighborhood non profit tells the Post, "I don't think Wal-Mart fits......

Today, the plans for a Brooklyn arena to house the NJ Nets will be unveiled at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Developer Bruce Ratner has enlisted Frank Gehry design the 20,000 seat building that would stand at the corner of Flatbush and Atlantic. And yes, there will be titanium. Ratner also plans to build 5,500 apartments and a commercial complex. Of course, some are complaining that this would lead to the "Manhattanization" of Brooklyn. Other bids to......
