Faisal Shahzad, the Pakistani man suspected of driving a Nissan Pathfinder with a car bomb to Times Square, will be in federal court to face charges at 2 p.m. Shahzad, 30, reportedly became a naturalized US citizen in just last year in Hartford: He "was not known to the U.S. intelligence community before the failed bombing attempt in New York City, and there was no derogatory information about him in terrorism-related government databases, an official told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity amid the ongoing investigation. Shahzad passed all the criminal and national security background checks required for citizenship, the Associated Press reported."

At 11:45 p.m. last night, law enforcement officials arrested a 30-year-old Connecticut resident for allegedly driving a Nissan Pathfinder filled with gasoline, propane, M88 firecrackers, and non-explosive fertilizer to Times Square on Saturday night. The U.S. Attorney's office said that Faisal Shahzad, "a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan, was taken into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport after he was identified by the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection while attempting to take a flight to Dubai."
Failed Times Square Car Bomb Could Be Part Of Int'l Plot
So that apparently poorly constructed, possibly amateurish car bomb left in a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder parked on West 45th Street in Times Square? Now the Washington Post reports it "increasingly appears to have been coordinated by several people in a plot with international links, Obama administration officials said Tuesday. Emerging from a series of briefings, several officials said it was premature to rule out any motive but said the sweeping, multi-state investigation was turning up new clues."
Cops Speak To Owner Of Times Square Car Bomb SUV
The Connecticut license plates on the SUV matched a Ford; according to WFSB, "The investigation led agents to a scrapyard in Stratford and a shoreline car dealership. Police said the Pathfinder could have been sold from Thomas Anthony Auto in Bridgeport at some point. The SUV's vehicle identification number led officials to the dealership... Police were also at Kramer's scrapyard in Stratford in a search to hunt down the license plates, which they said came off a pickup truck."
No Evidence Of Taliban Link To Times Square Car Bomb
While the Pakistani Taliban claimed credit for the Times Square car bomb found last night, today the police said there's no evidence of any link so far. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, "Although we have not yet determined whether the Times Square car bomb is linked to any specific terrorist organization, we are working very closely with the FBI through the Joint Terrorist Task Force on this case."
Times Square Car Bomb: NYC Avoided Possible "Deadly Event"
Speaking at a 2:15 a.m. press conference about the crude bomb found in an SUV in Times Square last night, Mayor Bloomberg said, "We are very lucky... Thanks to alert New Yorkers and professional police officers we avoided what could have been a very deadly event." Inside a Nissan Pathfinder parked on West 45th Street near 7th Avenue, police found "two gasoline cans, three propane tanks, electrical wires, black powder, consumer grade fireworks and two clocks." While the bob was called "amateurish," Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, "I think the intent was to cause a significant ball of fire."
Woman Fatally Runs Over Bicyclist Boyfriend With SUV

Twenty-five-year-old Janine Harrington turned herself into the police for running over Jeffrey Moore, whose child Harrington is pregnant with, according to Moore's relatives. A witness said Harrington hit Moore with a Nissan Pathfinder near the Chauncey Street and Rockaway Avenue early yesterday morning. Then she ran over him and backed up to drive over Moore again.
Drunk Driver "Ran Home to His Mommy"?
A little more information about the fatal drunk driving incident Friday night on the Cross Bronx Expressway. The driver of a Nissan Pathfinder, Glenn Salera, fled the wreckage of his car - and his injured friend - after hitting a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was moving slowly because of traffic, and Salera, who had been speeding, swerved to avoid the vehicle, but the front-passenger side was badly damaged (the Daily News has a picture showing a mangled car).
Boy Found After Being Kidnapped in Mom's SUV
Yesterday afternoon, an Amber Alert was issued for an 8 year old boy who was sleeping in the backseat of his mother's parked Nissan Pathfinder in Inwood when the car was stolen. Luckily, Jay Polanco was found in Nassau County just a few hours later, after a driver noticed an SUV pulled over on the Northern State Parkway. The driver, 25 year old Tom Knabbe, wanted to help the female driver, but his suspicions were aroused when Michele Garneau seemed intoxicated, couldn't find the address of where she was headed to, and couldn't speak Spanish to the boy. Knabbe ended up driving Garneau and Jay to a police station for help. A Spanish speaking police officer there revealed that Jay was the missing boy in the Amber Alert.
RI Murder Suspect Apprehended After Upper East Side Car Chase
Yesterday morning's car accident involving a man suspected of stabbing someone in Rhode Island is profoundly crazy. Joel Noonan was trying to drive away from MTA police on Lexington Avenue when his Jeep Cherokee crashed into Nissan Pathfinder near 63rd Street, hitting pedestrians, with the Pathfinder ultimately crashing into a travel office window. One woman, Eve Maria Boisbel, was hit so hard that she, as Newsday reports, was "wedged inside a black metal garbage can between the gray SUV and the storefront." In fact, the Daily News calls the trash can a "lifesaving helmet" since the Pathfinder had crashed the trash can into the store.
