Tonight striking writers and friends will take the stage again for a 2nd Strike Night! Joining John Oliver (The Daily Show), Liz Cackowski (Saturday Night Live), Andy Secunda (Conan) and Maggie Carey, Joe Grossman (Letterman) is John Mulaney -- possibly one of our favorite young comedians today. MUSIC: Courtney Love makes her return to the New York stage tonight for a little birthday celebration show at Hiro Ballroom. The rocker turned 43 on Monday of this week, and there's only one way to see if she's acting her age! Last time she got a little crazy at a suprise show at Plaid, and when she turned 40 she took a trip to Bellevue.

We can't possibly choose only one music event for the weekend, so check out OhMyRockness for the jam packed weekend listings. We will say, however, that one of the openers for Snowden at Maxwell's tonight...is We Are Scientists, trying out some new tunes. THEATER: Tonight is the first annual Downtown Clown Golden Nose Awards, where the highly coveted award for Clown of the Year will be announced, among other wacky honors. The semi-formal event – "noses optional" – will kick off with a glamorous red carpet entrance (expect tiny limos filled past capacity) and feature performances by nominees, spectacular dance numbers and fabulous door prizes. - John Del Signore

TRIVIA: Think you know a lot about New York? Come "challenge your knowledge of New York places, faces, dates and facts at the New York Book Club’s first trivia night. Special guests Steve Zeitlin and Marci Reaven, authors of Hidden New York and directors of City Lore, will be on hand to explain and educate." They warn you to bone up on your trivia at www.citylore.org and www.placematters.net beforehand.

THEATER: Should we be trying to protect our children from the man in red? That’s the premise of Jeff Goode’s much-performed The Eight: Reindeer Monologues, in which Santa’s vices are exposed by those on the receiving end of his lash. A scandal erupts when Vixen accuses Santa of sexual harassment; in the subsequent media frenzy, the other members of the sleigh team demand to share their perspectives, and a sordid tale of corruption comes to light. - John Del Signore

THEATER: The Ledge is a multi-media solo show based on a 1959 short story by Lawrence Sargent Hall. The production uses video projection as the only source of stage lighting to tell the haunting tale of a fisherman who becomes stranded with his son and nephew on a small reef off the New England coast in winter. When his wife ultimately finds his frozen body, he is compelled by her eyes to relive his last hours holding the boys above the icy waters. Martin Denton praised the Dixon Place workshop production of The Ledge as “a theatrical experience of rare power and beauty: an exploration of our humanity that has the profound capacity to move and uplift its audience.” - John Del Signore

EVENT: The avant-gourmands from Radiohole (who have been blogging about their adventures in Vermont) will be giving “private-dingy palm readings and psychic-portraits featuring Peek-a-Boo Technology” at the grand opening party for Three Legged Dog. The company’s new home, which is at the World Trade Center site, was recently heralded by the Times as a sign of “hope” for the other stalled projects at Ground Zero. The party is free and boasts performances by League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots, Aldo Perez and other hopefuls. - John Del Signore

COMEDY: Our favorite duo, Gil Faizon (Nick Kroll) and George St. Geegland (John Mulaney), will be bringing their "Oh Hello" show to UCB. Drop by, even if it's just for their famous Tuna-tina recipe. In addition, there will be NEW drink recipes...and special guests.

Tonight, after a day of rooftops and BBQ...head over to UCB Theater for some indoor BBQ. Sure, it sounds dangerous (that's a pretty confined space!) but that'll make it even that much more fun. And funny.

Aziz Ansari and his friends are taking over Pianos tomorrow night. Todd Barry and Nick Kroll are amongst those friends, but we hear there will be more (UPDATE: This just in, other friends include Leo Allen and Merlin and Zach. No last names, how mysterious!). Among the room full of funny there will also be a/v fun, like the debut screening of the new cut of "Illusionators" [watch the trailer here]. This is by the same team that created "Shutterbugs".

We hope you had a good time at Movable Hype 6.0 last night, which also served as a third birthday party for Gothamist (we really turn three next week, but details!). Thank you (and "Oh, hello!") to hosts Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, and thank you to the great lineup of bands, Burnside Project, Metal Hearts, and Slowlands. And big thank yous to Amelia and Loreal for making us wonderful birthday cakes. We enjoyed a chocolate skyline from Loreal's chocolate (with some coffee!) cake and Amelia's "Jerry Orbach Goes Undercover as a Panda" cake was almost not eaten because we wanted to preserve it.

We're excited to announce the next show in the Movable Hype series, which also happens to be our 3rd Birthday Party. So buy a ticket and bring us presents, here are the details:

It’s a new year, which means resolutions. Gothamist aimed low with our resolutions this year, seeing as we always break them by oh, today. (Nails bitten? Check. Too much beer imbibed? Yes. Zero regard for finances? You betcha.) We do have one more resolution which is to see more live shows and we think that’s something everyone should do. Even though we love DVR. We think going out is important. Resolve to see shows you haven’t seen before and realize that some of the people performing in New York right now might be famous soon! A few suggestions for this week….

December is a special time for comedians. Not only are they trying to scrape together enough money from the commercials and VH1 shows they booked this year to buy presents for their family, but it’s also Aspen audition time. The U.S. Comedy Arts Festival held in Aspen is a Mecca for comedians. Auditioning and being chosen for the USCAF and mingling with the comedy elite (past performers have included…basically everyone famous) is a career maker for many who attend. This weekend, check out the shows that just might end up catapulting these New York comics toward sitcom deals, Hollywood scripts or at the very least, a Sierra Mist ad. All shows are free.

Andres du Bouchet’s regular gig is that of Boliviguayan Entertainer of the Year Francisco Guglioni, MC of Giant Tuesday Night of Amazing Inventions and Also There is a Game!!! at Rififi. But beneath that vague mask of South American there is a real person. A man. With stories to tell. In the form of a one-man show.

Have you heard of PSNBC? We hadn't until a few weeks ago. PSNBC is network television's only performance and development lab. They are dedicated to picking out the best untapped talent, and they've been doing it in New York since 2000.
