Is it time for SpongeBob to move to Adult Swim? According to a report [PDF] entitled "The Effect of Fast-Paced Cartoons" in the American Academy of Pediatrics's journal, four-year-olds who watched 9 minutes of SpongeBob SquarePants performed significantly worse in mental function tests than those who watched "educational television" like PBS's Caillou. However, those who watched PBS described being "so bored my eyes hurt real bad" and had an unslakable thirst for complimentary tote bags.

Video: Watch The TV Movie Nickelodeon Banned For Being Too Scary
On October 28, 2000, Nickelodeon aired the TV movie Cry Baby Lane for the first and only time—because after parents complained about the film being too graphic and disturbing, Nickelodeon essentially swept it under the rug, never releasing it on video or acknowledging its existence thereafter. But after a Reddit user discovered that at least one bootleg copy was in existence, the children's film has now been uploaded online. So you can watch it in full below (before Nick inevitably takes the video down).
Nicktoons Turn 20: A Look Back
Usually, wistful nostalgia for pop culture trinkets of days past is reserved for things that existed before 1990, but not for Nickelodeon fans. This week marks the 20-year anniversary of the premiere of three of the network's seminal cartoons—Ren & Stimpy, Doug, and Rugrats—and while the channel isn't doing anything to celebrate, legions of young fans certainly are. Dora The "Extorter" Threatens To Wage War Against Nick
Dora the Explorer has long been creepily forgiving of the cruel, crass world around her; no matter what Swiper does, she never loses her temper! It was inevitable that she'd lash out eventually, and so it has come to pass that the former voice of Dora is suing her parent company for exploitation. She's not only suing—she's allegedly holding them for ransom, with a deadline and all. "It's an attempted shakedown," a Nickelodeon source told the Post.
Worldwide Day Of Play Takes Over Riverside Park Today
OMG—iCarly/Miranda Cosgrove is going to be in Riverside Park, along with Keke, Victoria Justice and a bunch of other Nickelodeon stars whose names (Robbie Amell, Matt Shively, Ashley Argota) we had to Google for today's Worldwide Day Of Play event. Nickelodeon and its sister stations (like Nick Jr.) are going off the air for three hours starting at noon—First Lady Michelle Obama will appear in a taped message to kick things off— to encourage kids to get up, go out and get moving!
Will Time Warner Take Away Colbert?
Say goodbye to the Colbert Report, Spongebob Squarepants and yes, even The City (we hardly knew ye), Gawker is reporting that "From New York to Los Angeles, Viacom channels like Comedy Central are set to flicker off cable systems in the first minute of 2009." The two companies have been not-so-publicly negotiating for some time, and now the network is holding their channels hostage.
