Kenny Cooper Delivers In Third Straight 1-0 Red Bulls Win

When Kenny Cooper was traded from the Portland Timbers to the New York Red Bulls in the off-season, reactions were mixed. Despite being Portland's leading scorer in 2011 with 8 goals, his cold streaks lead some Portland fans to celebrate his departure and RBNY fans to wonder how he would fit in. Red Bulls Defy The Odds With 1-0 Win In Los Angeles

No one expected much out of the New York Red Bulls in their only 2012 league match against 2011 MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy. On paper, a full strength LA and a depleted Red Bulls sounded less like the "1 Percent Derby" and more like the 1% hosting the 99%. But even without its highest paid players, the Metro side made waves with a defensive 1-0 win at the Home Depot Center. more ›

Red Bulls Shuts Out New England 1-0, But Henry Gets Injured

Red Bulls Shuts Out New England 1-0, But Henry Gets Injured

For weeks, senior New York Red Bulls players have sounded the same warning: the team needed to find a way to grind out 1-0 or 2-0 victories, as they would not always be able to score 4 goals a game. That warning became reality Saturday against the New England Revolution. After losing leading scorer Thierry Henry early to a strained hamstring, the Red Bulls managed to hang on for an unlikely 1-0 victory, their first shutout of the year. more ›

DC United Destroy Indefensible Red Bulls 4-1

The up and down season for the New York Red Bulls continues. The Red Bulls, second place in the East, are heading into RFK Stadium with a 3-2-1 record, while DCU (third place) has a 2-2-3 record; both teams trail Sporting Kansas City which has a 7-1-0 record. To prepare for the showdown, Gothamist's Dan Dickinson and DCist's Pablo Maurer discussed the matchup at length. Okay, there was name-calling, a lot of discussion about New Yorkers being liars, and how RFK Stadium is infested with rodents. Here's an excerpt: more ›

Quick Hits: Light Sentence for Fall at das Stadion

Quick Hits: Light Sentence for Fall at das Stadion

- Remember Scott Harper? He's that kid who foolishly jumped out from the stands at a Yankee game last season only to be caught by the net that protects the crowd from foul balls. For his actions, Harper was given three years probation and banned for life from Yankee Stadium. Seems a little light for risking the lives of all the people in those expensive seats. Then again, being banned for life from The Stadium seems like more of a punishment than the probation. more ›

Last Night's Action: Mets Get to 70; Yankees Use Homers to Win

Last Night's Action: Mets Get to 70; Yankees Use Homers to Win

- Mets 6, Nationals 4: John Maine's scoreless inning streak surely couldn't last. Former Yankee Nick Johnson ended the streak at 26 with a home run in the 4th inning of last night's win against the Nationals. Maine's chance of winning his third game ended in the 6th inning when the Nationals scored 3 runs, chasing him from the game. The Mets scored two in the 7th to break a 4-4 tie with RBI from Jose Valentin and Michael Tucker. Billy Wagner pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 27th save of the season. And for those readers that like to place the Mets in the AL East for comparison (not sure why you would) - their 70 wins would put them atop the Yankees. more ›

Last Night's Action: Mets Split Two With Nothing for Barroids

- Giants 6, Mets 4: The Giants and Mets waited out a rain delay before the first game of their single ticket doubleheader before San Francisco picked up the victory. Former Met Armando "Who Let the Dogs Out" Benitez picked up the save in a way that every Met fan can remember - walking two batters before getting the save. Of course, that's assuming he even got the save when he was with the Mets. Barry Bonds was 2-3 with 2 walks, 1 RBI and a run scored. more ›
