We recently visited Fox News Channel’s morning show Fox & Friends. Unlike most of the other morning shows it is a freewheeling kind of crazy romp that definitely has “Fox attitude”.

We recently sat down with Mike Jerrick, co-host of Fox’s syndicated The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. WNYW 5). A native of Wichita, Kansas and got his start in television at WIBW in Topeka. After Kansas he moved to New York’s WNYW to be a producer and host of P.M. Magazine and then moved to San Francisco’s KPIX where he hosted their version of the show called Evening Magazine. Then he moved to the national stage hosting shows for HBO, The Sci-Fi Channel, the short lived America's Talking channel, and CNBC.

Last night, former mayor Rudy Giuliani got a huge round of applause after tearing another candidate a new one about September 11. The Republican presidential candidates were participating in a Fox News Channel-sponsored debate in South Carolina, and the moment came when Representative Ron Paul of Texas discussed September 11. The video is above (the pertinent part comes at about 1:40 in) and here's how the NY Times described it:

At one point, one of Mr. Giuliani’s lesser-known opponents, Representative Ron Paul of Texas, gave what turned out to be a big platform to Mr. Giuliani when he appeared to suggest that the United States invited the attacks of Sept. 11 by having originally invaded Iraq.

Fox News Channel blowhard Bill O'Reilly and fellow Foxie Geraldo Rivera were in a heated argument on last night's edition of The O'Reilly Factor. The tiff was about a drunk driving illegal alien in Virginia killing someone and devolved into yelling and actual finger pointing with Geraldo starting out by pointing out to Bill that he was wrong. Since we usually avoid cable "news" like the plague, we were tipped to this morning, saw a bit on Fox 5 Midday, and was given a YouTube link. We can only imagine what MSNBC's Keith Olbermann, who is a foe of O'Reilly, is going to say on his show tonight.

Gothamist had the chance to sit down with veteran news anchor Rosanna Scotto of Fox 5. Scotto, a Brooklyn native, began her television career with WTBS in Atlanta in 1980 and returned home to work for WABC-TV in 1982. She moved to channel 5 in 1986 as a reporter and weekend anchor, moving up to the weekday anchor chair in 1994. We felt that since the Ten O’clock News on channel 5 will be celebrating its 40th anniversary on Tuesday, that it would be good to speak with someone there who has been there for a little over half that time.

Looks like the Giants will need to find a new running back for the 2007 NFL season. Yesterday, Tiki Barber indicated to the media that he is strongly considering retirement after this season. He certainly will have lots of opportunities off the field, Barber besides appearing in numerous commercials hosts a show on Sirius Radio and contributes to one on Fox News. He indicated that he would like to host a news show one day, perhaps he can help out CBS?

With the primary settling who's running in November, candidates came out swinging. And the best cage match might be the Attorney General's race. The NY Times had this first line:

Kicking off their general-election battle for New York State attorney general yesterday, Andrew M. Cuomo and Jeanine F. Pirro could not have smiled more, sounded nicer, or done a poorer job of concealing their true feelings: they want to shred each other.

In fact, Democrats in NY State spent yesterday calling her Pataki's lackey (not in those words, sadly, more like "royal lieutenant," but "Pataki's lackey" rhymes!). In the gubernatorial race, Republican John Faso said the Wall Street prosecution cases of Attorney General - and frontrunner - Eliot Spitzer were "phony" while Spitzer called Faso a "lobbyist." Really, men, settle down! And Republican candidate for Senate John Spencer challenged Senator Hillary Clinton to a debate; the Post reports her people said she will, but they need to work out details. Details like will this come before or after some swings into the Midwest to raise more money.

The Times Square Alliance has mucho information about New Year's in Times Square. Going to Times Square is not really Gothamist's cup of tea, but there are a lot of interesting things happening, like Kathy Griffin hopefully skewering celebrities, a wrap-up of the year's events by the Fox News Channel (ha!) and Lindsay Lohan performing for MTV - plus free confetti, balloons, pom-poms, glasses, etc. from the Alliance. It's also the 100th Anniversary of Times Square, so there's a special tribute between 11:05PM and 11:10PM. Here's the schedules of events.
