Not too long ago Ronen Givony started the Wordless Music Series, which is pretty much just what it sounds like it would be. Sonic worlds collide and fuse classical with indie, jazz with electronic and listeners with instrumental-only music. In the next week audiences will enjoy the sounds of Do Make Say Think and Beirut from an intimate setting for just such an experience.

It's freezing, it's Monday...and today is the most depressing day of the year. Happy Blue Monday, everyone!
One of our favorite guilty pleasure blogs, the Social Cavity, points us in the direction of Mr. Beller's Neighborhood.
One of our favorite things about this city is it's ability to surprise us every day. This weekend the Arcade Fire played an impromptu acoustic set outside of the N R stop in Union Square. Luckily a few appreciative fans caught it...
There's a lot going on this weekend, as per usual. While we didn't celebrate Cinco de Mayo last night, nor were we at the New Order show...we are finding ourselves a little bit tired today. If anyone out there noticed an unusual sogginess in the midtown area this morning, we can explain. A little lingering dampness often tends to be the inevitable result of a thousand squealing hipsters simultaneously wetting themselves when New Order decides to play “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” Yes, they played it, and it was awesome.
Neo-eighties melancholic synth-pop outfit My Favorite filtered through the suburbs of Long Island, converging on their inevitable epicenter with distilled inclinations toward the stylish new wave music of their youth. My Favorite are a quintet comprised of Michael Grace, Jr. (vocals, guitar, piano, synthesizers), Andrea Vaughn (vocals, melodica, synthesizers), Darren Amadio (guitar), Gil Abad (bass) and the so-called Todbot (drums). Making the move to more-than-just-friends in 1999, they settled on a sneaky name for the band that effectively declares the band Winner every time they are announced on stage or on air. Characterizations of the band elicit references to the Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Joy Division and Saint Etienne, an infinite stream of comparisons to the Smiths and even more to New Order. My Favorite figurehead, songwriter and historian (See? We fell for it, too.) Michael Grace, Jr. crafts responses to our inquiry.
