NKOTB To Perform At Roseland On NYE, With Special Guests
Very Important: NKOTB Will Be In NYC On NYE (With BSB?)
As you already know, when we were younger we had a friend that really loved the New Kids On The Block. So much so that she had every inch of wall and ceiling space in her bedroom plastered with photos of the band, torn from magazines. So lame, right? Hahahaha what a loser. Well, we thought that this friend, wherever she is, might be interested in Donnie Wahlberg's recent Tweet, stating: "Pardon The Interruption... NEW YEARS EVE! NYC! Every fan of NKOTB will want to be there!"
NKOTBSB Needs To Drop The "SB" And Come To NYC
We have a friend who was a New Kids on the Block fan a long time ago. In middle school. So long ago! At this point it's like that time never really existed for this friend. Anyway, this friend has much better taste in music now, but still, is wondering if it would kill these guys to play a show in New York City during their collaborative tour with The Backstreet Boys? It wouldn't kill them. We feel pretty secure in saying that it would 99% certainly not kill them. And yet, the closest venue to New York City is in New Jersey.
Week in Rock: Haunting Edition
Stephen Colbert endorsed Barack Obama earlier this week, (even though he'll still be voting for McCain) and he managed to nab one of Barack's earliest R&R endorsers to play the Report last night. Stephen chatted with Jeff Tweedy before the song, exchanging pleasantries before accusing him of being a socialist for giving away an MP3 on the his website. The band played an exclusive song, debuting "Wilco, the song" (like Joe, the Plumber) which sounded almost too good to actually be a gag song, despite inserting Colbert’s name into the lyrics. The band'll be back in town in December with Neil Young at The Garden. Watch the clip from last night here.
Gothamist's Week in Rock: The Slowest News Week Ever Edition
The Pacific Northwest's Memorial Day tradition continued once again with this season's Sasquatch Festival. The lineup was superb, featuring the Cure and R.E.M., amongst many many others across the multiple stages. While the gorgeous natural backdrop of the main stage at the Gorge usually gets all the attention, the post-fest chatter mostly revolved around The Flaming Lips. Never afraid to tack on another gimmick to their already circus-like live show, Wayne Coyne summoned a handful of naked ladies (link NSFW) to the stage during the set. There's no question that the Lips Ringmaster is a talented musician and excellent performer, but this is just sort of creepy. While it's always a thrill to see them live, especially for the first time, it might be time for them to try and mix up the show a bit? Coyne can only climb into that same bubble so many times before you just wanna see something new. Rather than adding questionable content on top of itself, the band might be due for a reboot. Especially if this sort of stunt is the kind of fresh ideas he's coming up with these days.
NKOTB Ring the Bell, Rock the Plaza
Last month the New Kids on the Block (or if you prefer, NKOTB) reunited on the Today Show to announce they were...reuniting. This morning they returned to play some tunes at a rainy Rockefeller Plaza (at press time a nostalgia-packed medley is going down), and fans lined the streets to get in. Guest of a Guest reports from the frontlines, saying, "we almost tripped over NKOTB votaries camping on 48th Street as we were en route to a lunch date at Saks."
NKOTB Reunite on the Today Show
For those checking the New Kids on the Block website, hoping that rumors of the teen dream band making a comeback are true...you may find the ticking countdown clock scream-worthy. As reported by People magazine, the five-some will be performing on The Today Show this Friday, April 4th. Seriously, break out the acid wash, this is no April Fools joke.
