Beginning today, Whole Foods will only sell sustainable seafood, an initiative the company announced last month, with seafood quality standars coordinator Carrie Brownstein explaining, "In the long term, what we're really looking to do is help reverse trends of overfishing and bi-catch, so that really we can move the industry as a whole toward greater sustainability." But some fishermen accuse Whole Foods of killing their livelihood and hypocrisy.

Jets Face Patriots In Crucial Rematch
With a three-way tie atop the AFC East entering Sunday, the night game between the Jets and the Patriots is sure to have critical playoff implications. The Jets have won three straight to draw themselves even with New the Patriots, who have lost two straight and limp into the Meadowlands. New England won the first meeting between these two teams with a 30-21 decision in Foxborough on Oct. 9. If the Jets win, they'll be a game up and in good shape as far as tiebreakers go. If they lose, they'll be a game back and will not have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Buffalo, the other team tied for first place, plays at Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
Can Connecticut Be Part of New England And Tri-State?
NY has long had an uneasy alliance with Connecticut. Sure, it takes a bitter, drunken train ride with a bunch of gassy people to get there, but any place that is willing to give Bobby Valentine a job in government can't be all bad. So despite the distance, we've gone along with the whole Tri-State area thing, which incorporates three of the state's eight counties, Fairfield, New Haven and Litchfield, and a majority of the state's population. But it seems that CT has been having its cake and eating it:
Super Bowl Odds & Ends: The Bet, The Ring, The 19-0 Shirts
The football season is over, but news about the Giants and their Super Bowl win never gets old. Here's what's been happening since the ticker tape parade:
Thanks to This Week's Advertisers
We would like to take a moment to thank this week's advertisers on Gothamist.
Kate Sullivan, WCBS-TV Anchor
Kate Sullivan co-anchors CBS 2 News This Morning on WCBS along side Maurice DuBois every weekday morning. She is a native of New England, attended Notre Dame and came to channel 2 in April of 2006 from KATV in Little Rock, Arkansas, which is ranked #57 on the list of biggest television markets. We recently paid her a visit at the studio and asked her some questions.

Holy Cow: The New York Giants Win Super Bowl XLII!
Liveblogging Super Bowl XLII: Giants vs. Patriots
11:27PM: We're enjoying the postgame coverage of the Giants' victory, with sad Tom Brady, really excited Michael Strahan (singing Eli's praises), Peyton Manning being thrilled with his brother's success (aw!) and thoughts from the 1972 Dolpins, secure with their undefeated record for another year (but the Patriots still won more games in a row!). While we've been inside, there are a number of large crowds celebrating the Giants' win all over the city - the police have been called to break some of them up!
Mayors of NYC and Boston Make Super Bet on Super Bowl
Mayor Bloomberg and Mayor Thomas Menino of Boston are putting it all on the line for Sunday's Super Bowl. After winning the awful bet from Green Bay, Bloomberg has a lot more riding on the line when the Giants face off against the Patriots this weekend. As is the custom when the playoffs roll around, the mayors of the teams participating decided on a friendly food wager. The stakes, or should we say steaks, are upped in this bet as the Vince Lombardy Trophy are on the line.
Giants Bag Pack 23-20, Pack Bags for Super Bowl
The Giants won the NFC Championship in overtime, beating the Green Bay Packers 23-20 in overtime and overcome the frigid, below-zero conditions. They are now headed to the Super Bowl where they will meet the New England Patriots, who beat the San Diego Chargers 21-12.
Sunchoke Fish Chowder
Yes, that's bacon sprinkled on top of a bowl of Arabic spiced New England fish chowder, photographed in front of our tallis bag, which features a beautiful watercolor painting of Jerusalem. Sacrelicious, maybe, but it all makes sense – this chowder is made with Jerusalem artichokes instead of potatoes, after all.
A Giant Test: Will the 3rd Time Be a Charm
The degree of difficulty is going up this weekend, way up. Dallas finished with the best record in the NFC at 13-3 and dominated the Giants in two games already this season. Only New England had more points than Dallas’ 455 and with Terrell Owens practicing, the Cowboys should be able to score a lot this weekend.
Jets and Edwards, Together Again
While much of the football excitement this weekend surrounds the New York Giants' game versus the New England Patriots tonight, the Jets still have an interesting Week 17 matchup.
What Will The Giants Do?
For the Giants the final week of the regular season is all about questions. Will they start their regulars on Saturday night? Should they start their regulars? Does it even matter if they do start them? In any other year the answers would be clear; send the starters out for a quarter and then get everyone off the field and rested for next week’s playoff game. But, this is not an ordinary week, this is a chance to stop history by beating the undefeated Patriots scream some pundits.

Giants Run To The Playoffs
The Giants won on Sunday in spite of many things. They won in spite of terrible weather. They won in spite of Eli Manning and they won in spite of their coach. What other conclusions can you reach after watching yesterday’s game?
Jets to Find Out if Patriots Are Larger than Life
The spread opened at 27 points. It's recently settled at 24 1/2 points, which, if held, would be the largest ever for an NFL game. More went into that spread than a terrible team playing an unbeaten one on the road. The Patriots have been running up the score on opponents all year, and everyone thinks they're doing it to teach the league a lesson after it was exposed -- on the word of jets Coach Eric Mangini -- that New England was recording the Jets' defensive signals during a Week 1 win in the Meadowlands.
Jets Aren't Quitters, But They Aren't Good Either
With the Jets 3-10, the best thing that can be said about them is that they're still playing hard. They seemed insulted that people thought the Dolphins could beat them last week, and, despite playing in front of empty seats in a heavy rain Sunday, the Jets fought back before losing to the Browns, 24-18. Kellen Clemens scored the Jets' only touchdown with his quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter, but his inconsistent play and...
Dodging the Freezing Rain Bullet
It looks like we will miss the freezing rain today as the cold air hasn't quite gotten here. A winter weather advisory is in effect for those portions of upstate New York and western New England that are getting the freezing rain. The freezing rain upstate, and the drizzly foggy conditions here, are associated with an elongated frontal system that stretches from the east coast back to Texas. That system, which is being blamed for...
Warm Beginning, Cold End, to Thanksgiving
Another gloomy day today. A bit of fog this morning may delay flights out of town. You may also have weather-caused delays if you're going to northern New England (ice and snow), Chicago-Detroit-Milwaukee (rain) and the front range of the Rockies from Denver northward (snow). If you're staying in town you can expect cloudy skies and mild temperatures with a high in the mid-50s. It won't cool off much tonight, making for a comfortable...
Like It or Not, Jets Settle for Spoiler Role
After a much-needed bye that followed six straight losses, the Jets return to the Meadowlands field Sunday to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, the first of three Super Bowl-caliber teams on their schedule in the second half. A win in any of those games -- they are also at Dallas on Thanksgiving and at New England on Dec. 16 -- would be a major surprise. That's the only way the Jets can affect the NFL...
Signs of Life but No Sign of a Win for Jets
Even if a good portion of the announced paid attendance wasn't there to see it, the Jets played an entertaining if not successful football game in their 23-20 overtime loss to the Redskins on Sunday. Kellen Clemens showed flashes of brilliance and moments of poise -- including a drive that culminated with the game-tying field goal with 10 seconds left in regulation -- but the Jets defense didn't hold up its end of the bargain....
Last Night's Action: A Garden Shootout
Rangers 2, Devils 1 (SO): Petr Prucha did enough to finally earn a second "E" for his name. He set up the only goal in regulation and scored the only goal in the shootout. Scott Gomez struck against his former club. The Rangers had other chances, including Chris Drury's breakaway in overtime, so this win helped them sleep better at night. Islands 3, Penguins 2: This could have been a Pyhrric victory. Rick DiPietro got...
Last Night's Action: No Wins Here
The current Devils are one of the best teams in the NHL over the past 12 seasons, but that meant nothing as they opened up their new building with a loss. The Senators blew open a 1-1 game after two with three goals in the third and the Devils fell to 3-6-1 on the season. Luckily, they have a lot of home games coming up at “The Rock”.
Rudy Giuliani, a Yankees Turncoat
Rudy Giuliani better check his sports allegiances. While campaigning in Boston, a reporter asked the former mayor which team he would be cheering for in the World Series - the Colorado Rockies or the Boston Red Sox. To our surprise (and Bostonist's), he went with the Red Sox, "I'm rooting for the Red Sox. I'm an American League fan, and I go with the American League team, maybe with the exception of the Mets. Maybe that would be the one time I wouldn't because I'm loyal to New York." Last time we checked, the Yankees and Red Sox were bitter rivals. We're betting that you won't catch a Mets fan rooting for the Braves or Phillies in the World Series or a Giants fan rooting for the Cowboys or Eagles.
