It was one week ago today that actress Natasha Richardson took her fatal spill on a ski slope in Canada, though originally feeling okay from the fall, she ultimately died of a blunt impact to the head last Wednesday after being transported to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

Yesterday, Natasha Richardson's husband Liam Neeson, their 12- and 13-year-old sons and other relatives were comforted by friends, including Diane Sawyer, Lauren Bacall, and Ralph Fiennes, at the American Irish Historical Society, where a wake was held for the 45-year-old actress. Richardson passed away on Wednesday, after suffering a brain injury while skiing in Quebec on Monday; the Daily Mail reported that Richardson's mother Vanessa Redgrave sang "Edelweiss" before she was taken off life support. Richardson is expected to be buried near her and Neeson's weekend house in upstate New York. Yesterday, the NY Times found a three-hour difference between ambulance records and the ski resort's account, raising questions about whether a quicker response might have changed her condition.

This morning, Richardson's body, in a wooden casket, was transported from Greenwich Village Funeral Home on Bleecker Street, to the American Irish Historical Society on 5th Avenue for a private wake held at 2 p.m. It's been rumored that she will be buried in Millbrook, NY, where the family had a home and Richardson belonged to the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church. Prior to today's sad goodbye, the Tony award winner's husband, Liam Neeson, went to Broadway last night, where the lights were dimmed in tribute to his wife. The couple fell in love there while co-starring in "Anna Christie" in 1993. Though he came and left alone, reportedly Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick, and actor Fisher Stevens were seen with him before he "walked by himself through an alley and drove away."

Following Natasha Richardson's death last night, the NYC medical examiner's office performed an autopsy and announced the actress died from an "epidural hematoma due to blunt impact to the head." The NY Times looks at how a seemingly innocent spill on a bunny hill could have killed the actress, who walked back to her room joking about her fall on Monday, and turned away an ambulance that was originally sent for her by ski patrollers. Sadly, the Times talks to a doctor who assumes "The most likely injuries would have been treatable had they been detected promptly." While funeral arrangements are being made at the Greenwich Village Funeral Home, Playbill reports that "marquees of the Broadway theatres will be dimmed [tonight] at 8 PM for one minute."

Last night Natasha Richardson's family broke their silence and released a statement letting the world know "their beloved Natasha" had died at Lenox Hill Hospital, following her fall skiing on Monday. Over the past few days, being kept alive on life support, visitors to the hospital (beyond her family) included her first husband producer Robert Fox, Lauren Bacall, Meryl Streep, and Joan Didion.

Last night TMZ reported that Natasha Richardson's mother, Vanessa Redgrave, was seen entering Lenox Hill Hospital to visit her daughter sometime just before 9 p.m. Richardson, a Tony-winning stage and film actress was transported to New York yesterday after suffering a brain injury during a skiing accident in Canada.

As previously mentioned, sad news of actress Natasha Richardson being injured during a skiing accident yesterday was reported this morning. Richardson, wife of Liam Neeson, was at a Montreal-area resort taking a beginner's lesson when she fell. While she didn't have a helmet on, the NY Times has word from a spokeswoman at the resort who said “She didn’t show any signs of injury, she was talking and she seemed all right.” But now the 45-year-old Tony-award winner is reportedly in critical condition with a brain injury. The latest word is that she is "sedated and suffering from brain swelling -- but is not brain dead." And TMZ has just reported that she was boarded onto a private jet with a medic team to be taken to a new hospital that they believe is in New York City.
