MTA Board Meets Today To Discuss Bailout

The MTA board will be meeting today to discuss the State Legislature-approved $2.26 billion bailout plan that provides some relief to the agency while raising fares 10% for commuters (this year, plus additional fare hikes in 2011 and 2013) and imposing a payroll tax for employers in 12 counties. On the upside, there are no major service cuts. During this meeting, the board is expected to reduce the doomsday fare hikes and service cuts it approved in March (we expect the Post to keep tabs on whether Nancy "I'm dating Macca" Shevell attends). The other big news is MTA CEO Lee Sander's resignation. Sander told WCBS 2, "I think it's fair to say I'm leaving because the governor wants me to. It's his prerogative choose who he wants to be chair and CEO of the MTA and I've made it clear that it's his choice... I would prefer to stay. For me, it was a dream job. I am very proud of the progress we had made in the two and a half years."

Being A Beatle's Girlfriend Leaves Little Time For MTA Work

Taking an earlier cue from the NY Post, now the Associated Press delves into the work habits of Nancy Shevell, transportation executive, MTA Board member and girlfriend of one Paul McCartney.

Shevell and Macca Get Examined from Waist Down

Just last week MTA board member Nancy Shevell was under a microscope for skipping a crucial fare-hike vote in order to fulfill her new full-time job duties of being Paul McCartney's girlfriend. A socialite at heart, the 48-year-old Shevell is still gallivanting around town with Macca this week, most recently for the Natural Resources Defense Council gala. The organization focuses on climate change issues and was honoring Stella for her environmentally-friendly design. A UK rag takes a look at the unfortunate glittery sheer leggings Ms. Shevell wore to the event, and the even more unfortunate zipper issues the 66-year-old McCartney had with his pants. A wardrobe malfunction that would have been way hotter about 45 years ago.

MTA's Shevell to Marry Macca

Former Beatle Paul McCartney may not be bailing out the MTA anytime soon, but it's rumored he may finally be able to marry one of the organization's board members. A few papers around town are reporting that McCartney will be marrying Nancy Shevell, heiress to a freight-moving fortune and MTA board member (at least through 2011) which helps oversee projects like the 2nd Avenue subway. British papers were abuzz when Shevell's divorce became final in December, allowing her to officially move over to Macca, and allegedly his children are in full support of the marriage (his third). CityRoom states the obvious, noting the union "is unlikely to be of much direct help to the M.T.A., whose budget deficit stands in the billions of dollars," but the least Shevell could do is stay in town with the troubled MTA. The site reports that she is "reportedly spending much of her time now in Britain, at Mr. McCartney’s homes in East Sussex and in London."

Reports from the road are that Paul McCartney and his girlfriend/MTA board member Nancy Shevell have been vacationing on Route 66. They're driving in the 1989 green Ford Bronco the two allegedly shared their first kiss in (aw), and eating at fine dining establishments such as T.G.I.Fridays! The two have nearly come to the end of their month-long journey, recently at a stop in Texas the Beatle played "Hey Jude" on harmonica for a 4-month-old boy named after the song. The couple are also subject to a rumor that they'll be marrying sometime soon in the Hamptons. Shevell is legally separated from Port Authority commissioner Bruce Blakeman, and Macca just divorced his 2nd wife, Heather Mills, to the tune of around $50 million.

West Village residents may need to get ready for an onslaught of British paparazzi: Rumor has it that Heather Mills, ex-wife of Beatle Paul McCartney, is buying an apartment at 173 Perry Street.

She may have just spent a vacation in Antigua with Paul McCartney, but MTA board member Nancy Shevell does need to make sure she looks good. Perhaps that's why she parked her SUV in a commercial loading zone while visiting a salon.

Two divorcees, one more high-profile than the other, are macking it up in Amagansett. Paul McCartney, who's still divorcing wife #2 - Heather Mills - and Nancy Shevell a 47-year-old MTA board member who is legally separated from Bruce Blakeman (a commissioner for the Port Authority), have been spotted all over the Hamptons lately. Even The Times is talking up the two-some, and according to amNewYork the former-Beatle has been seen doing the following with...
