Yesterday afternoon, NY1 reports, "Authorities received a 911 call about a stabbing and found the bodies of Paul Johnson, 47, and Regina Alston, 46," in a Jamaica, Queens home. "Alston had multiple stab wounds, while sources say Johnson hung himself and had cuts on his body." The Daily News says the couple's teen daughters were present at the time and one jumped out of a second story window to escape. The landlord said they were good tenants but recently Johnson moved out after a fight.

Diamond Dealer, Wife Found Dead In Apparent Murder Suicide

An elderly Manhattan diamond merchant with business and health problems shot and killed his 78-year-old wife in their bed yesterday, and then fatally shot himself in the chest, according to investigators. Police found the couple in their Fresh Meadows home after co-workers at Green Bros. Jewelers reported that Morris Green, 76, hadn't showed up at his Fifth Avenue office. The jeweler's business had been hit hard by the economic downturn, and he faced crushing medical bills after a recent heart surgery. But at least one person who knew Green refused to believe it was suicide.

The Staten Island Advance reports, "A chilling murder-suicide yesterday, capped with a bomb scare, ended a deadly 24 hours on Staten Island that included two more public suicides, each in a borough park, and a fatal motorcycle crash." In the case of the murder suicide, a man called 911 saying, "I shot my wife. Yeah, it was an accident, and I shot the cats too." John Pizon said he would leave his door open for EMT, but when cops arrived to the home in Bulls Head, they found Pizon dead from a gunshot wound to the head; police also found grenade and other firearms in the home (Pizon apparently collected Civil War firearms). On Tuesday night, a retired police officer was found dead, apparently of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, in Great Kills Park and yesterday morning, a 22-year-old man's body was found hanging from a tree in Willowbrook Park. The man who discovered the body in Willowbrook Park was walking his dog, "I saw the waste basket turned up and him, hanging there... I felt sad and scared."

Steve McNair Slain Inside Tennesee Apartment

Former MVP quarterback Steve McNair was found dead inside a condo he rented in Nashville, TN yesterday, killed in what appears to be a murder-suicide with a woman he had been dating in recent months. The 36-year-old McNair, also known as "Air McNair," was found shot multiple times alongside 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi, who died of a single gunshot wound to the head. Police had not yet made an official ruling on the deaths, but a spokesman said, "At this moment nothing has been ruled out, but as far as actively looking for a suspect tonight, the answer would be no." The pair met while Kazemi was a waitress at Dave & Buster's and neighbors said that she had recently been seen coming home in limousines and had been driving an Escalade that she said her boyfriend had bought her. Kazemi had been arrested in that Escalade (registered to her and McNair) on Thursday for a DUI. An ex of hers told a local paper, "She did not deserve this. He was making her believe they were going to be together and everything would be perfect.” McNair, who led the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999 and retired from the Baltimore Ravens in 2007, leaves behind a wife and four children.

FBI Raids Murder-Suicide Lawyer's NYC Office

Yesterday, FBI agents raided the Lexington Avenue office of William Parente. Parente killed himself after killing his wife and two daughters in a Maryland hotel room last week—the Long Island family had been visiting the eldest daughter at college. Based on some papers left in the room, it's believed Parente was in financial trouble. Newsday reports, "Investors have said Parente used the money to make high-interest commercial bridge loans" (with high returns) and that the FBI has spoken to many individuals who invested $20 million with Parente over the past two decades. Some investors had demanded their money back, but Parente stalled on giving them the money and when he did, the checks bounced. One person said, "No one questioned him, because everyone knew him. I don't understand where the money could have gone." The FBI left the office with dozens of file boxes and a hard drive.

Separate Funeral Services For L.I. Lawyer, Family

A Long Island lawyer who killed his wife and two daughter before taking his own life will be cremated and not be a part of the family's funeral mass and viewings. Newsday reports there's a special service tomorrow for Betty Parente, 58, and daughter Catherine, 11, and Stephanie, 19; their wakes will be on Monday, followed by a funeral and burials on Tuesday. The funeral service for William Parente, 59, who bludgeoned then asphyxiated his family one by one at a Maryland hotel on Sunday and later cut himself so he bled to death, will be private. Parente apparently had a side business giving high-interest loans for real estate—but it's unclear what his financial dealings were, since checks to investors started to bounce this week. Stephanie Parente's suitemates at Loyola shared stories about their friend with Newsday, "Stephanie spoke to her mother every day. She adored Catherine, who visited on Loyola's sibling day... She took cell phone pictures of herself doing things like watching television and sent them to her."

A friend told Newsday that "he took calls from the worried investors, who had given Parente as much as $6 million and as little as $50,000" and the Post suggests Parente may have handled $20 million of investor money.

Fatal Queens Fire A Possible Murder-Suicide

The fire that claimed two lives in a Bayside apartment building yesterday may have been set on purpose. The victims were a couple, Sun-he Kim, 45, and her husband, Yong-ho Kim, 51 and authorities are investigating whether it was a murder-suicide. Accelerant was reportedly found in the bedroom; the Daily News reports, "Investigators believe Sun He Kim was already dead when the fire started, but it was not immediately known how she was killed... It was not immediately clear if [Yong-ho Kimg] had planned to die or was overcome by choking smoke while trying to escape, the sources said." The couple was apparently in debt—their 20-year-old daughter's boyfriend told the Post that debt collectors were hounding them. The boyfriend added she received two calls from her father, "The last call was at 5 a.m. He left a voice mail saying, 'I love you, I love you, I love you.'"

UWS Murder Victim Reportedly Pregnant

The Post adds a sad detail to the Upper West Side murder-suicide: Debra Silver, who was apparently fatally shot by boyfriend Michael Ruiz in her West 93rd Street apartment, was pregnant. The Post reports Silver, who was pregnant from IVF, "was in her first trimester of pregnancy, according to two law-enforcement sources." It's believed Ruiz, who was married but his wife had filed for divorce, was jealous because Silver had been making dinner for her ex-boyfriend Dan Tedlie. Silver was shot in the face and chest and Tedlie was shot in the chest, before Ruiz killed himself. A friend of both Silver and Tedlie told the Post, "I didn't know the nature of their relationship, but to think that anyone would feel threatened by Dan is completely unreal. Dan was forever a nice guy."

Tedlie's mother said of her son and Silver, "They were good friends, and they loved each other that way." Further, Ruiz was married with two children in NJ; a neighbor said of Ruiz, "Wendy and him were happily married, as far as I could tell. He's into archery and hunting. He was a very nice guy, kept to himself."

Their 18-year-old daughter tried to intervene, but Newsday reports, "he struck his daughter in the face." The daughter then called 911; Cole, who shot himself in the head, was conscious when the ambulance arrived but he died at the hospital. Suffolk County police Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick says there was "a general atmosphere of trouble," because the couple were getting divorced. Neighbors were shocked and surprised to hear the couple were divorcing; one told the Post, "There was no sign of anything. Never an argument, nothing. They were the ideal family."

After shooting Evan-Sawyer, Sawyer shot himself in the head. Paramedics were unable to save the baby and one shelter resident said the couple was always fighting.

A 72-year-old woman and her 53-year-old son were found dead in their Union Square apartment on East 17th Street yesterday. They say her son "lived with her and tended to her health."
