Staten Island's PS 22 Kids Represent At The Oscars

At 11:38 p.m. last night the PS 22 kids from Staten Island were introduced to Hollywood's biggest names by Oscar co-hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway. The 64 fifth graders ended the big show with a rendition of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," led by their chorus director Gregg "Mr. B" Breinberg. They were joined by the Oscar winners at the end... which may have made their t-shirts look even more out of place, but we're glad they kept it real in front of an A-list crowd. more ›

Video: Kylie Minogue Sings With Staten Island Kids

Kylie Minogue is the latest performer to visit the kids of P.S. 22 on Staten Island (joining the likes of Tori Amos). Check her out performing some songs with the kids in the videos below... doesn't seem like she lip synced for this one! Her visit took place yesterday, and teacher Mr. B says, "She is truly a wonderful spirit and completely enchanted us all, kids and grown-up types alike!" Staten Island Public School Chorus Does Good

On Staten Island, the chorus at P.S. 22 has gotten themselves into the spotlight with some help from YouTube and their 36-year-old director Gregg Breinberg. The NY Times reports that Breinberg's bunch has performed everything from Viva la Vida by Coldplay to Flying Dutchman by Tori Amos. One 10-year-old voice in the contemporary chorus says, “When I get depressed, I think about my songs and it makes me feel better. I also sing for Mr. B because he takes his own time to teach me, and so I always put in a 100 percent effort because that’s a really cool thing for him to do.” more ›
