We were perusing the theater reviews in the Times when we caught this review from Charles Isherwood for the play, Indoor/Outdoor. According to the play's website at the DR2 Theatre, it's about Samantha the house cat who "dreams of adventure and risks everything to find true unconditional love, but will she find her dreams in the home of her quirky owner or with a sexy alley cat in the great outdoors?" Isherwood didn't feel up to the task, so he ceded his reviewing duties:

To assess the play's merits, I enlisted the aid of two guest commentators: Jane, 11, a flame-point Siamese, and Prudence, 12, a tabby. Their conversation has been translated from the feline by me.

The two NY Daily News sponsored NYC spelling bee contestants didn't advance in yesterday's fourth round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Alexander Martin, a Dwight School eighth-grader, misspelled "dissilient" (it means "springing apart, specifically bursting open"; Martin spelled it "desilient") and seventh grader Rajdeep Chahal at MS 137 was stumped with "feuilleton" ("the part of a European newspaper devoted to light fiction, reviews, and articles of general entertainment"; Chahal spelled it "fuolyurtone"). Even though these kids are headed back home early, Gothamist would like to congratulate them, because Martin and Chahal could easily whup our ass in spelling... in fact, if either one could master Movable Type, we'd love them to check our spelling.

Our server migration is pretty much complete. There may be a few things we need to smooth out over the next few weeks, but we're up and running. A few things:

Hello, everybody. We've had a couple of exciting months, launching SFist and DCist as well as growing our staff, and have a busy fall/winter planned as well:

Gothamist is run on Movable Type, and we think it's a great platform, but in order to get it set up and to do some of the customizations, you need to have a basic knowledge of some of the back end parts of blog publishing software. It can be difficult to install if you don't have a basic understanding of things like cgi. Also, you'd host the program, so you'd have to pay for webspace and do all the installation yourself. Although, it is a surprisingly versatile program, and would definitely be useful for what you want to do.

Thank you, readers: Your help has helped us get THREE Weblog Awards nominations! And considering the company we're thrilled to make the cut. We're nominated for Best Group Weblog, Best Non-Weblog Content of a Weblog Site (what is that, exactly?), and Best American Blog. We face off against Jason Kottke in the Best American Blog category, but we know who'll probably prevail: That kid who played Wesley Crusher.

Gothamist understands the need for advertising revenue, but this pop up ad from the New York Times website really took the cake. It seemed like a pop up ad appropriate when going to Maxim or FHM. Time to fire off a letter to new public editor, Daniel Okrent. "Dear Daniel, Love the paper, hate your ads." Granted, the ads seem to only appear after 11PM, but they're still kind of downmarket, back of Village Voice or NY Press style.

601am tells us that Anil Dash is the new VP of Business Development at Movable Type. Here's MT's news release about the hiring, but 601am's thoughts on how Anil would affect MT are way funnier, in Gothamist's opinion.
