Fatality In Yesterday's Van Wyck Motorcycle Crash

Following up on yesterday's news about three motorcycle accidents in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens within two hours between late-Saturday and early-Sunday, it turns out the motorcyclist in the Van Wyck Expressway crash died. The Daily News reports, "At 12:48 a.m., [a] driver of a Suzuki bike fatally crashed, this time on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway near the Belt Parkway in Queens, police said. Cory Burrus, 36, of Jamaica, struck a guardrail and then hit another motorcycle driven by a 27-year-old man, according to cops. Burrus was pronounced dead at the scene. The other biker was in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital with arm and shoulder injuries." more ›

Off-Duty Cop Dies In Motorcycle Crash

An off-duty police officer died after crashing his motorcycle in Queens last night. The Daily News reports, "Phil Clemens, 27, was on his was to a biker party in Astoria Park when his 2001 Suzuki GSX R600 slammed into a guardrail on the Cross Island Pkwy. just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, police and his friends said. Clemens, who was assigned to the 100th Precinct and rode with the 'Street Assassins' motorcycle crew, tried to make a turn onto the Whitestone Expwy. moments before the crash." An investigator said, "He couldn't negotiate the turn. His front wheel locked up and he went into the guardrail." more ›
