For the second straight year, thousands of elegantly dressed drinkers descended upon the main branch of the New York Public Library Friday for the opening night of the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, a five-day celebration of all things cocktail-related. And despite the potentially lethal combination of four hours of open bar, thousands of five inch heels, and the NYPL's sweeping marble staircases, nobody took a spectacular tumble and landed in a bloody clump of bones and broken glass, impaled by a stiletto to the throat. At least not that we remember.

Who's Crazier: Mixologists, Or People Who Pay $15 for Drinks?
Perhaps the only thing sillier than an unbearably serious bartender who calls himself a "mixologist" is the customer who's eager to pay upwards of $15 for a drink. To be sure, if you've got the money, an expertly-made cocktail at, say, Milk & Honey or Death & Company can, under the right circumstances, transcend such trivial concerns as "price." But the city's uptight cocktail culture is certainly ripe for parody, and so Thomas Chadwick, the owner of the superb Williamsburg cocktail den Dram, has plucked the low-hanging fruit. Here's his funny video skewering both pretentious sides of the bar.
Lots of Money in Mixology, Making Dogs Poop
Some "hidden rich people" were recently profiled by the New York Post, and now we regret not considering a different career path. A limo driver, for instance, makes $250,000 a year/up to $20,000 a day driving around celebrities. A personal trainer pulls in $300 an hour and between $200,000 and $250,000 a year, and Soho dog walker Eddie Bimonte earns about $4,000 a month, $230 a day. "My job is to make sure they pee and poop," he explains. "I love it when they poop!"
