Longtime Suspect Confesses To Murdering Brooklyn Woman

Over three years ago, a 25-year-old Brooklyn woman disappeared and was believed to have been murdered after a night of clubbing; two years after that, the remains of Laura Garza were finally found in Pennsylvania. Now, the prime suspect in the case who has long been suspected of having killed Garza has finally confessed to smothering her to death. But Garza's family isn't satisfied with the sentence given to registered sex offender Michael Mele: "My daughter will be the same age as my sister when he gets out. Body Found In Harlem River ID'd As Missing Party Goer

A body found in the Harlem River yesterday was identified as that of a woman who fell into the river on Sunday morning. WABC 7 reports that police pulled "the body of 20-year-old Anjelina Wills...from the water near Roberto Clemente State Park." Willis had attended a barbecue party with at least 100 other guests near the river at 147th Street; when the 20-year-old fell in, other partygoers jumped into the water to try to rescue her but were unsuccessful. Earlier this week, party's host told the Daily News, "No one knew who she was. I don't know who she was here with. She probably had some drinks and fell... She really didn't look like she could swim. Woman's Body Found on Long Island

Newsday reports that "the body of a white woman" was found this morning as police searched for missing 29-year-old teacher Leah Walsh (pictured). A staffer at the North Hills Country Club found the body and called the police. However, the police say it's "too soon to say" if it is Walsh; Detective Lt. Kevin Smith said the body is "an unknown victim" of "an undetermined homicide... Other than [the body being white] we haven't been able to identify the body at this time. We believe the body has been there over 24 hours." Walsh has been missing since Monday morning--her car was found on the side of the highway. more ›

Cruise Claims Missing Passenger Was Climbing Between Balconies

The Norwegian Cruise line issued a statement about the New Jersey woman who went missing from the Norwegian Dawn ship on Sunday night: "Initial reports indicate that the 46-year-old woman was attempting to climb from one exterior balcony on deck nine to the adjoining balcony (on deck nine) and subsequently fell overboard. NCL is cooperating fully with authorities who are investigating the cause of the incident." more ›
